Project 2drx4. A cherokee.

Are the Visteon axles cast iron or cast steel? I have read a lot of debate about the 8.8. Most seem to agree that it is cast steel. I would guess the 10.25 would be the same. That may impact how you choose to weld it. Willy -
There is no such thing as perfectly good sheet metal if it gets in the way or can't be used as a slider. Willy

I'm not familiar with castarc. What's involved in that? Willy -
Go with the Lebaron vents. I think they go pretty well with MJs/XJs. Take pics of how you mount them. I've got a couple of sets that I am trying to find a good way to mount. For some reason it seems most write ups don't really cover that very well. :hmm: Willy

Solid cooling system upgrades?

- Make sure the radiator is not clogged with mud. - Make sure the radiator is not clogged internally. - Flush the system. - Make sure your temperature gauge is accurate. Willy -

I've seen several guys use a Sawzall. Do you think that would have worked better? Are you planning to do the preheat, weld, slow cool process with a MIG welder? Willy -

Nice. 8) Are you cutting at the yellow lines too where the tubes are pressed in? Willy -

What kind of idiot logic is that? When you're wheeling your prefer to restrain your engine so that it doesn't perform its best? When you are wheeling a colder thermostat is worthless. Once it opens it does nothing to keep the engine cool. If your cooling system is so bad that only a 160 degree thermostat keeps it from overheating, those temperatures will continue to climb as you sit on the trail. Fix the problem. Do not install a stupid colder thermostat. :shake: Willy -
Are you referring to the Peugeot BA10/5 5 speed transmission? If so, you may want to check again. The Peugeot only came with the 4.0. I think the 2.5 had the AX5, maybe the AX4. Willy

Looks like your missing a bolt for your bumper. Willy

Where is it leaking from? Is the case cracked? Willy I cannot tell where the fluid is coming from. I have douched the underbody clean of oil and still can't tell. All I know is that I have to add two quarts of trans fluid a month. The case is not cracked, as far as I can tell. It would probably be a good idea to find the source of the leak before jumping to completely replacing it. It is likely just a seal that can be found for a few dollars that needs to be replaced. First place I would check is the transmission input seal. It is easy to remove the access cover on the bottom of the bell housing. If there is transmission fluid in there, most likely the seal has gone bad. For me this goes bad pretty regularly. I have replaced it on two of the four driving XJs/MJs I've owned. The most recent I replaced before I put the transmission in because I knew I would need to do it eventually. Willy

If you are not converting to 4WD, then don't even consider the 4WD AW4. You need to get a 2WD AW4 to replace you current 2WD AW4. As for the output spline count of a 2WD AW4, it is fairly easy to remove the driveshaft and count the splines. You don't need to remove the transmission and that will be the most definitive way of determining if it matches the spline count of your current transmission. Willy

It doesn't count unless there are pictures. :fool: Willy
-
You need to clarify what you are trying to do. You keep referring to 2WD and 4WD AW4s, which have major differences. At this point it is far from clear what you want to do. Do you want to replace a 2WD AW4 with a 2WD AW4? Do you want to convert a 2WD XJ to 4WD? Willy

The view from the road looked incredible. I remember looking past the power house wishing we could go up there. Apparently we could. Willy

I may have answered my own question. I was looking through some pictures and it looks like the sign on the gate says miners and hikers enter at your own risk. I wish I would have realized that at the time. I thought everything past the gate was private property. I would have loved to explore it more. Willy

How did you get access to the power house? I thought it was private property? :D Willy

Can you be more specific? :hmm: What part of the vehicle do you want to protect with a skid plate? Willy

Will any of the pre-JK D30 outers work on the JK D44? I've never tried, but for some I was pretty sure they wouldn't work. Which 8.8 would you use? Explorer, F150, or some other one that is a closer width match to the JK D44? Willy -
Why do you think that vehicles shouldnt have names or genders? Because they are not companions, pets, people, etc. They do not have personalities. They are made of metal, plastic, and rubber, not flesh and blood. I hate watching a car show or reading about a car that is referred to as sexy. No matter how beautiful a McLaren, Bugatti, or Ferrari is I will never be aroused by it...unless Jessica Biel is naked on the hood. But, maybe I'm just weird. I also don't find cartoons or video game characters sexy, no matter how big they make Lara Croft's tits. :dunno: Willy

What happened to the pictures? :redX: Willy

Rooster is by Alice In Chains. My vehicles were given model names by the manufacturer - Comanche, Ram, Cherokee, etc. Those are the only names they will or should ever have. Just as vehicles do not have genders, they should not be given names. Also, a vehicle should never be referred to as sexy, unless you are a perv with a tailpipe fetish. Willy
