  1. I just bought a 21 gal. compressor from Harbor Freight (Central Pneumatic) The instructions say to "break it in" you put a male coupler in the female quick connect and run for 30 minutes with the air just rushing out. Never heard of this. Is this necessary? I did fill it with oil, ran for a few minutes , drained and re-filled oil.
  2. Yes, just like the owner's head, it was loose lug nuts! I've always heard that you should re torque aluminum or cast wheels after a short time. Duh! Three wheels were real snug, the drivers front wheel, 2 nuts were hand tight, and 2 were a tiny bit loose. Really glad that was it. Thanks for all the great suggestions!
  3. Accelerating, driving, and slowing down. On and off while cruising, more pronounced accelerating, and slowing down. Even when I take it out of gear while slowing down...tried that to see if it was a "power" issue. Turns, braking, or bumps make no difference.
  4. I just took off the old set of stock wheels, and put on some nice Jeep OEM used mags with 225/75/15 nice tires, used. Both sets are the same size. Don't know if this is a coincidence, but a couple of weeks with them on, there is a thumping noise, and feeling somewhere between the front end and cab? Hard to pin down noised while driving. This is a 2WD 5spd. 1986. Track bar is new, brakes should be good. I'm hoping it's not like a universal joint or problem with the drive shaft. It's not constant, but is there quite often, speed up and slows down with driving speed. I can't see any obstructions, the tires fit fine and there was no noise for at least 2 weeks. Any suggestions? Thanks !!!
  5. Hi guys, I have 225/70/15's on my truck and need a new tire (used) for inspection sticker. An older post said some trucks came with 195 tires. Could those be mounted on my wheels? And if I got 2 for the front, could I leave the 225's on the rear? Being smaller / cheaper tires, I would really consider getting 2 new ones, then 2 more a little later on. Thanks!
  6. My 2000 Dodge Grand Caravan is blowing hot air now. There are alot of choices, small cans of freion, up to kits with pressure guages at $50.00 +. How would you guys proceede ? Thanks in advance.
  7. Ending a sentence with...SO! My niece does this all the time.
  8. Very good points! There are a couple of relays down there, if I take a pic would you be able to point it out? I'd sure rather replace that than the switch. And yes Kkilmer, I bought an arm rest from you...very fast shipping and a nice piece, thanks. If I need anything I'll contact you.
  9. Looks like I need a new wiper switch. The wipers work when they want. I replaced the motor...and the bushings a couple of years ago. Still work when they want to. Today I barely got them to work at all. Time to take the plunge. It's for an 86 Comanche Custom. Just the basic signal stalk with the 2 speed wiper switch, with the "single wipe" feature if you twist it backwards. Please only one you know works! I'm at 01030. Thanks!
  10. A new law in MA, headlights have to be on while wipers are on, also the 1/2 hour before, and after sunrise & set. Is there an inexpensive part, or way to rig up a headlight on alarm when you turn off the ignition, and / or open the door? My 86 Comanche has no such thing. Yes, I have been jumped twice in the past 4-5 years from forgetting to shut the lights off when It was light after getting to work. Thanks!
  11. You guys rock. This weekend , I am draining the system, and re-installing the thermostat with some Permatex... there was a tiny bubbling leak at the top of the thermostat housing. Then I will add around a 50/50 mix this time. One more question, the owner's manual says the 2.5 takes 10 qts / 8.3 qts...that's how it reads, which one do I follow? I'm thinking about 5 quarts of antifreeze, thin fill with water. Thanks!
  12. I have always run really heavy on the antifreeze, close to 100%. I put in a new thermostat just because who knows when it was last replaced. Now it dribbles and the "heat" comes out cold....yea!!! Also there was a knockout part of the gasket that I popped out because there is an opening in the block that matches up. Going to remove and add some Permatex to the mix before re installing. By the way I did run the heat when I started it after thermostat replacement and added straight antifreeze until it was full.
  13. My truck only overheats when it is frigid cold. It's happened 3 times now over the past 5 years. No one has a clue why, they just "fix" the end result....broken hose, popped out freeze plug etc. It just did it again. Temps here in MA were -0, after about 15 min driving to work the light came on. Drove it back home, when I parked it, it was boiling. Antifreeze sprayed all over. Today I checked all the hoses, freeze plugs, all good. Started it and let it run to see if I could see antifreeze coming out....zero. Drove it a little, let it sit running...zero. Only cold air coming from the heater / defrost, it does give heat, not a lot but enough to keep me warm usually. When I shut it off, the top hose was hot, and gurgling. the heater hose were slightly warm, the bottom hose was cold. Also I can squeeze the top hose, running or not easily. Shouldn't the hoses give some resistance cause they are full of fluid? It's the 2.5 engine with 124,000 on it. Normally it runs great, gives fair / good heat 18 mpg. Could this be as simple stupid as the thermostat? All summer it runs fine, never got hot. Thanks
  14. That was a great video. That is exactly what I thought I was going to do. I do wonder if I have the right part, or being a repro it just isn't right for my truck. Been trying to post Photobucket pics (WOW they changed). What I bought was Quadratec #55014 8015. I tried to copy and paste but no luck. This part doesn't look like the original. I'm a little PO'd. Thinking about returning it and seeing if someone here has one.
  15. No, it really doesn't seem to be fitting. It was for a 4 door Cherokee front door. It really doesn't look like the original. There are 3 pieces of metal that look like they match up to the cutouts in the strip. Not sure if anything broke off. What's up with the needle nose pliers?
  16. Do you have to remove the door panel to install the outer window seal on the door? I just got one from Quadratec and it looks like it snaps in, but not all the way. And it looks like it would come loose when the window was rolled up. It looks like there are things that would hook in the door. The original one just kind of fit in there, but would come loose here and there from rolling the window. I got out one time and it was gone. I tried to just push it down beside the window. I got it all the way down, didn't "seat" in there. The window was super hard to roll down or up. Then I was able to pull the weatherstrip right up and out. This should be easy.... any input.

    1986 arm rest

How much are you looking for? I don't see why it can't be painted??? Your location says NW CT / W. MA. Where are you? I'm in Feeding Hills, MA. Maybe we can make a deal.

    1986 arm rest

Looking for a drivers side arm rest for my 86 Comanche, preferably black!
  19. Check out Casita trailers. They have a 5th wheel, very light.
  20. Yes, that is exactly what I'm talking about. I am finally able to move the pics but no need now, thanks! I will try the suggestions and see what happens, thanks again.
  21. Hey guys, thanks for all the help in "the pub" about posting from photo bucket, but still no luck. So I will wing it. My truck starts ok, but after a little bit of driving, the engine begins to race! I get to a stop sign push in the clutch and it revs like crazy! The throttle cable really doesn't seem to be sticking. There is this electronic device thing with a tiny plunger that the cable "rests" on when you let off the gas peddle. The plunger thing seems to move freely also. Any ideas on what I can do...or the name of this device in case I need to replace it? Thanks, Jim
  22. I know I'm missing something. I've been trying to post a couple of pics from photobucket, but when I try to click on the links, nothing happens. Is there something I'm missing??
  23. I just removed one of the rear fender flares to get at the rust. All of the nuts snapped off (surprise) and I tried to get the remaining pieces out of the brackets . It looks like they are part of the bracket. Can they be removed or do I need to find some replacements? Or maybe just use nuts, bolts & washers to re-attatch? This is what I found under the flares. I don't think it looks to bad for an 86, what do you guys think?
  24. I have an 86 with the 2.5. I cracked the valve cover a little changing the gasket. My neice gave me a steel one but it's different. this is the one on the truck this is the replacement, I'm guessing the hole at the back is for the pcv valve, would that little nipple thing on the right side be for the hose at the rear of the original? And can that be adapted? Thanks
  25. Are the Comanche doors the same size as a 4 door Cherokee??? I need a seal for the bottom of the window and Quadratec has them listed for $10.99, but specifies 4 door only. Thanks!
