What would be the easiest way to break it off ? I'm afraid if I tried to pry it off it might mess up the threads on the tank spout. I guess being plastic the cap should break before hurting the threads.

My 86 Comanche has been sittiing 5 or so years and it's time to resurrect it. My gas cap won't come off, it's like it's welded to the body. It has the original plastic cap. I tried to remove the little nuts around it but can only really get to one. Any suggestions would be appriciated. Unfortunately it has almost 3/4 of a tank of gas ... that should be complete garbage now. Got it off ! Pried the black part off which broke some of the inner part and tapped the nubs with a big screwdriver untill the threads loosened. Sprayed a bunch of silicone on it and screwed the brokken piece part way in just to keep it sealed untill I get a new cap. Thanks for all the suggestions! Found a new replacement on Parts Geek for $7.21 !! https://www.partsgeek.com/pnkcjdk-jeep-comanche-fuel-tank-cap.html?utm_source=google&utm_medium=ff&utm_content=UK&utm_campaign=PartsGeek+Google+Base&utm_term=1986-1992+Jeep+Comanche+Fuel+Tank+Cap+Motorad+86-92+Jeep+Fuel+Tank+Cap+88+89&gad_source=1&gad_campaignid=17182816450&gbraid=0AAAAAD_bfN7_cs-QYb9GAJhA_wdPEgpOF&gclid=CjwKCAjwn4vQBhBsEiwAq3hhN2xbWSDOwmdpoQeHcYPeC8dwMTJ0pUckgpmzgA31oLHRz9XnEx35ARoC43wQAvD_BwE

Is there anyone in the Springfield, MA area who can help with clutch replacement? 1986 2WD 5spd 2.5li. I have ramps, jack stands, lots of tools. Can't really get under it these days, but can do most of topside work. Not asking for free work, will pay cash for any help. Thanks, Jim

I'll try to post pics, this is very agressive surface rust. Large spots of rust that will eventually turn into full on rot. I just want to stop it before it gets bad.I'm also assking for other metal...lawnmowers etc.

What do you guys use for rust removal? Not just on the truck but anything metal. But also, I have big spots of rust on my truck...not at the rot stage, and want to address this before it turns into rot. Thanks !!!

Is there anyone in the Springfield MA area who is up to do a clutch replacement job on a 1986 Comanche 2wd? It also has a hard start issue. If you are close, I could have it towed to your location. Otherwise, I have lots of tools if it could be done at my home. I will pay cash. I need my truck!!!

My 1986 Comanche needs a new pressure plate. If I do any work it will be the whole deal...clutch, pressure plate, throw out bearing. It's a 2wd 2.5. Are there any pics of any bolts on the top of the transmission??? And can these be accessed from the engine compartment...under the hood? Any pics would be appreciated. I will have to do this on ramps or jacks. Any help would be Awesome! Thank you! Jim

Thank you for the info but the Advance site says this will not fit. I'm guessing that because their site does not recognize Comanche's you got it to fit?
-
Will this fit my truck? The website says no, but I know there are bumpers that will fit even if the site doesn't recognize them. $109.00 isn't a bad price for a new bumper...I also hear I may eed to replace the brackets. Thanks for all the info!!

I guess the answer would be replacement. I just need a step bumper to put a hitch ball on. The original bumper is rusting bad and when I hooked up my utility trailer to it with 2 riding lawnmowers, the rust/rot cracked and where the ball goes looks bad. I'm glad I was just seeing how they fit and backing it into where I store it instead of driving on the road! Fair chance the trailer would have dropped with the bouncing on the road. I hear there are other bumpers that fit Comanches...does anyone know which ones? Thanks guys!!

Does anyone in the Springfield Massachusetts area have a rear step bumper for sale, need one ASAP but hate to pay for a new one. Thanks, Jim

I am looking for the e-brake cable release inside the cab. I have an 86 Comanche with the foot activated pedal to activate the brake. This would be the pull release lever and cable. Thanks, Jim`

Has anyone heard of cupronickel brake lines??? The StopShop has them advertised as "never rusting". They have a 25' roll of 3/16" tubing with unions clips fittings and tee for $34.00. They say it is easy to bend and flare. This sounds almost to good to be true. It would sure be great to replace all the lines and never have to worry about them again. Any thoughts? Jim

Thanks Pete, but do you know where they can be found?

Does anyone still make those stainless steel rain guards that you install at the top of the window?

Any write ups about replacing the light switch in the door? When I open the driver door the lights come on when they want to, half the time I need to wiggle it with my finger to get the lights to come on. It is probly causing a short or battery drain too. Thanks, Jim

Got it finally!!! It was just a major pain all around, those nuts have almost zero space to get a wrench on. I found out by removing the oil filter I could reach the connections easier. The worst part was holding it up while lying on my back and also trying to align the spacer. My arms feel like Jelllo

I finally managed to get the 2 nuts out and the starter is hanging by the wires, it looks like that will be a treat trying to remove and re-attach the wires. I'll go for that tomorrow after work while it's still light out.
-
What is the trick to removing the starter? I've done this before but have no idea how. One of the nuts is accessible but super tough to remove, the other one is above the exhaust pipe. I disconnected it from the manifold but it won't move enough to get in there for the other nut ???? Any tricks? Thanks !

I've tried everything I can think of but these 2 nuts will NOT budge, the other 6 came out pretty easily. Any suggestions?

stuck swapping in bucket seats

Any tips on removing the brackets? The 2 bolts on the back of both came off easy. Front nuts not so, 2 came off, 2 will not budge, using a 13mm socket the pass side wants to strip...hasn't yet, driver's side won't budge at all. Cut them flush and re-drill??? I'm frustrated. -

I was able to remove 6 of the bolts holding the brackets to the floor, but I really don't need to remove them. I just need to get the driver and pass side parts that adjust the bench seat off. I will be re-attaching the bucket seat assembly's to the existing mounts that are in the truck. I'm following a good write up about modifying the mounts to fit bench seat mounts...just need to get those pesky seat adjusters off of the mounts
