I'm curious about the wiring. Can you get away with using the old harness?

Emissions Trouble
CrankShaftKid replied to CrankShaftKid's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Thanks guys, changed the EGR and 02 and am now compliant. Throttle response is much more lively as well. -
Having a hell of a time getting my emissions to pass inspection. First time I took it in, failed. Realized the PO took the dam the cat off. Okay so I take it in and get a cat installed. Took it in today, hydrocarbons are good, but Nox is way high. Actually 4 times higher than pre cat, which really doesnt make sense. Assuming the guy didnt screw up the second time and I do in fact need to get Nox down, where should I start? Thanks guys

I got a new headliner and the corresponding visors from a member, but it works with shorter visors so I have nothing for the clips to mount to since my original headliner had the long visors. Is this doable? (with cherokee parts?) Thanks

CrankShaftKid's 88 MJ (4wd swap)
CrankShaftKid replied to CrankShaftKid's topic in Member Projects: Your Comanches
I meant 97+. But I havent decided if I wanted the grill matched yet. -
I had no spark early in the week on my 4.0L. Changed the coil, still no spark. Changed the cps and it fired right up. Seems like the CPS is the leading culprit for random no spark problems. Also, if you can, pick up a timing light. That will take the guess work out of whether your getting spark or not.

Thanks. That car in the background is my previous project, 69 Coronet Super Bee. -
1988 MJ Sport 2wd D44 Rear 4.0 5 speed With the new shoes 245/75 MT/r's on rubicons. Other plans are 4wd. 99+ Front end conversion and new Paint. Thanks so far to Boilermaker with major help on parts.

CPS was the culprit. Had a burned wire and the whole thing just looked like crap. Plugged the new one in, bolted it in, and it fired right up. Chalk up another one for the CPS!

Thanks. And 88 5speed

Guys, My MJ won't start. Fuel is there. It cranks, but I put the timing light on the #1 wire and nothing is showing. Recently pulled the dash and reinstalled. It fired up after I finished, now nothing. Also, the aftermarket tach the PO installed now doesnt work. And it seemed like it went out before it stopped cranking. What should I check? Thanks

Putting a dash back in
CrankShaftKid replied to CrankShaftKid's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I went with 8023 Gray/Oyster Cutpile. Ill take some detailed pics when I do it and itll be as good as time as any to start my project thread. I'm thinking I'm going to do some dynamat or some alternative sound deadner as well. -
jeep truck 86, did you do your avatar in the 6BBL plymouth style? I like it.

Putting a dash back in
CrankShaftKid replied to CrankShaftKid's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Yeah after a few trials I realized putting the lower hooks in with the bolts as guides is a good first step. Then its pretty much just fitting the wires and lining up the top 9mm (i think they were 9's) bolts. http://www.autocarpetoriginals.com/inde ... s_id=14334 Thats the carpet I ordered, though it may be a bit before I put it in, won't be able to work on it until finals are over. And I got excited with my new gray interior pieces (originally smurf blue) and went ahead and changed everthing. So ill have to come up with the motivation to pull everything out again. -

Is a Sob..... Any suggestions? Tips? tricks? I pretty much wrecked all the clips that hold the harnesses to the frame coming out as well. So I'm just stuffing the harness where I can. Any suggestions will help at this point. A/C btw.

I'm reading different things in different places about 2006 rubicon rims. They should be 16 inch and 5 on 4.5 which is correct for an mj right??

Looking into a gear change for my 2wd 88 with a D44. This is something i won't be able to do so ill have to take it somewhere. Obviously I need the ring and pinion but what other parts are necessary and from what supplier? I also need to settle on how tall they should be. My plans don't include any tires over 33's and i will be running 31's for a pretty good while. I have a 5 speed now but it'll be an automatic by the summer. MPG is a concern for me because I commute an hour to college fairly often. Any suggestions? I was thinkin 4.10's..... Any help is appreciated. Sorry if this is the wrong section, i wasnt even thinking. -Greg

Quick question about 1987 drivetrain
CrankShaftKid replied to CrankShaftKid's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
It should be stamped on the tcase what type it is right? I asked him to identify it for me. Also he says it was a 4 liter.
