  1. The front drive shaft with the double cardan joint is supposed to be pretty much straight on the bottom u-joint. It looks fine. Rear drive shaft the upper and lower u-joint angles are supposed to be equal. In other words, the t-case output and the differential pinion shaft are supposed to be parallel.
  2. But don't put motor oil in the t-case. It takes transmission fluid.

  4. And then he did it again! Looks like he had fun. Makes me not want to have to wait 'til spring. With a bit of luck I wil find some snow to play in in Canada later this month.

  6. :agree: When I got up at 5 it was 10 degrees. 15 minutes later as I was about to get under the shower it was 9. After I got done with my shower it was 7. 6:15 as I walked out the door is was 6. Get to the shop, turn on the heat and the shop is 60 degrees by 7 am. And stays there. Furnace never shut off and when I went home at 11:15 it was 61 inside.

    Dinner?

I would probably cook mine longer since I like it crunchy, but if you want to be able to roll it you would need to leave it chewy. Crunchy is the best way to ruin a perfectly good piece of bacon. Limp and greasy all the way!

  10. What was under the wheels of the Chevette? Milk crates?

  12. Changed the oil (generic full synthetic high mileage for $3.50/quart), filter (Pur-One), checked axles and T-case and greased all the fittings. Just now remembered I should have adjusted rear brakes. Oh well.... Another day tomorrow.

  14. Went to Wally World to by 6 quarts of generic fully synthetic 10W30 ($17.50 for 5 quart jug, plus $3.97 for another quart), then across the street to pick up a pre-paid Pur-One from Advance that had to be ordered (???), stopped by Autozone on the way home to use some of my store credit to pick up some hand cleaner and while passing my house on the way to work to use the heated shop for an oil change I decided to stop home first for a bite to eat. Needless to say the oil change didn't get done. Do it after work tomorrow.

  16. Yeah, except I was backwards. Rotate one wheel two revolutions while the other one is on the ground not moving, and count how many revolutions the drive shaft makes. A little over 4 is 4.10, 3 and a half is 3.55 etc. Don't know what the heck I was thinking when I wrote the other message. Probably wasn't thinking at all. But I would still pull the covers to change the oil and read it off the ring gear while it was open.

  18. I would buy a gallon or two of gear oil, a tube of RTV and pull the covers. It can't hurt to drain the old oil and fill with fresh, and while the cover is off, check the ring gear. The ring gear has the number of teeth on it as well as on the matching pinion stamped into it. Divide one by the other to get the ratio. IE 41 10 is 41/10=4.10, 39 11 would be 39/11=3.55. Or, if the tag is still there (a little metal strip bolted to the diff cover, clean it up and read the ratio off it. Another option is to jack up 1 (one) tire, leaving the other one on the ground. Put your transmission in neutral and count how many times to spin it for one revolution of the drive shaft, then divide by 2. (this will not work if you have a locker). Almost 8 and a quarter turns is 4.10, just over 7 is 3.55 a bit more than 6 is 3.07 etc. If you have a disconnect in your front axle, put the truck in 4wd with the engine running until the light comes on, then shut if off and shift back to 2H. But I would pull the covers.

  20. Why'd you buy my old truck from the junk yard? Yeah, that's 3 hours worth of snow in my parents' driveway, lake Huron snowbelt.

  24. Sounds like a good plan. 33" is a good size for Comanches, and you should need only minimal trimming with 4.5" lift. BUT, please consider going with a different brand lift. Motion Offroad and Rubicon Express come to mind. I have no personal experience with Rusty's, but a lot of people here have, and almost none of those were good.
