I have to work Sunday, but does anybody want to run it Saturday? Wish I could make it for the repairs, I would love to make a difference on that trail, I can see that trail easily turning into what carnage canyon did.

Yes I was VERY careful to have the wheels facing forward. I noticed today that the noise goes away when the steering box is cool, its after about 10-15 minutes of driving when the noise becomes audible. I try adjusting it tomorrow after I get home.

Is it the box binding up and should I just adjust it back a few turns for the time being or do I need to get a box b4 it can be driven again?

In autos I would have preferred the column shift, I'm surprised that they didn't make that an option in the XJ like they did in the mj.

Tightening a steering box is almost always a bad thing. :( Just to be clear, I meant to say that I adjusted the gear on the top as explained in a recent thread by jtdesigns. The screw bottomed out b4 the slack was adjusted out and I just reassembled it in the bottomed out position, and that was when the clicking started.

now it is looking like I cannot make it out to the pick and pull this week, and I am a little worried b/c ever since I tightened the box (at least I don't think that this happened b4) I have been hearing a pop, or click noise when ever I start to turn left (just one click when the steering wheel is at about 10 degrees left) do I need to worry about this and should I quit driving it until I get a new box?

Going to the pick and pull this week to get a steering box (power steering if that matters) for the mj. I tried to tighten it last week and the adjustment screw bottomed out. How do I remove the steering box? is it just the three bolts on top of the box that I need to remove or is there something else to it? Thanks, James

Mine has always had this problem as well, where the steering wheel is soooo easy to turn that it is harder to keep it in its lane, does that fall under the same category as tighten the steering box, or is that to eliminate slop in the steering.

Do you mind me asking how much you payed for them, just trying to get an idea so that if I decide to have them build me a set I know how much it'll set me back.

I was looking into doing buckets on mine, but I still need the middle seat, I looked into putting a Ford truck Console into it (the ones that have a fold out 3rd seat) but it was definitely TOO big, does anybody know if there is any other vehicle that has a fold out middle seat that is a bit narrower? sorry to hijack, it just seams that this is relevant to this thread.

I got under there and hit it a couple of times and sure enough, there is the rattle. Ill take it back to the exhaust place this week and have them reweld the hangers....
