newbie here with some lift questions

ok as for the aal I'm not 100% sure but the aal one should either be shorter or longer then the rest of the leafs. I'm not 100% sure but i think i saw that somewhere. -
yes but the d50 wasnt the same as the dakota or comanche. the d50 was the same as the plymouth arrow truck. and they were made by mitsubishi for chrysler. and they were compact trucks. the dakota and comanche are midsize trucks. so they were a tad bigger then the d50.

yea the rescue would be a great tow rig and off road vehicle. too bad it isnt getting made. but the gladiator on the other hand is the next jeep ill buy besides more MJs.
-
well then ill get one of my friends to video tape me raceing my friend across the street who has a dakota from 87 with the v6 with my 86 v6. only thing is they are both 4x4s. but any ways i think we all know who would lose. :(

Aftermarket rear bumper
GirsMJ86 replied to Indyjeepnut's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
yes it is a full metal step bumper with diamond plate on the top. either chrome or black powder coat. i got one for my 86 when i bought it. its a fye bumper. http://www.truckaccessories4less.net/co ... ickup.html this isnt where i got mine from though. my uncle owned a car parts/paint store when i needed it but sold it awhile ago so I'm not sure where he ordered it from but it is nice. -
that sounds like a job for DMC. which i know this is way out of this subject matter at all but they actually had blueprints for a stainless steel pickup. now too bad they got shut down before he got a chance to make it. but i was actually thinkin about makin an mj out of stainless if i ever get xtremly rich.

NOW THATS THE WAY TO DO IT RIGHT THERE!! if only it could happen.
-
ok what about t-case? what should the stock one be for the 2.8L 86 stock truck?
-
and here is the commander pickup i was talkin bout. its not by chrysler but it is still cool and is a good idea for them to take it and make it. Image Not Found

well if there is a factory part number i have it in my comanche parts list book some where. i will have to look for it though. but if anyone has that number let me know incase i can't find it. -alex

i didnt mean "flop" in that way i meant the fact that it was an AMC and not a chrysler who had their own midsided truck.
-
also you can't compare those two because the years would be wrong. there is no 86 dakota since it was introduced as an 87 model just like cars are still introduced today like that. so you would have to compare an 87 dakota (1st year of em) to an 87 mj (2nd year for those). the dakota would have the 2wd manual 3.9L v6 (125 horsepower) while the mj would have the 2wd manual 4.0L inline 6 (173 horsepower). also both would have to be short beds so weight was closer even though the mj had a slightly shorter bed then the dakota. so with those specs for the engines from the same years you judge which would be faster for the year of 87 models.
-
yes the 2.5 is way better but i got stuck with the 2.8L. but any ways, by the time the dakota came out for its first year the mj was way better. the mj had the 2.5L inline 4 or 4.0L inline 6 and the dakota had the 2.2L inline 4 and 3.9L V6 both with less power then the 4.0L mjs in 87 models. plus all that really matters is the off road ability which we all know the kj was way better. i use to have a ram and ill tell u ill never buy dodge again cuz they just don't get the power to the gound for traction and all you do is sink. -alex
-
you can't compare the v8s that it has to the inline 6s. i know it started out with crappy engines just like the mjs but i think what really hurt jeep was no other options like xtended cab or crew or anythin like that. o and lets not forget that awsome convertible dakota in 89.
-
ok and i know not many ppl are big on the commander but lets be glad it doesnt look like its concept. Image Not Found ill scan the pickup commander pics and post em up here too.
-
the dakota was introduced in 87 so that makes the mj 1 year older. the better one came first of corse. too bad it flopped instead of the dakota. -alex

idk if the buzz is correct in everything i have looked at about the gladiator then it sounds like it might come out. :D the CEOs for chrysler are all talkin bout it i guess. it now out ranks the convertible 300 they were going to make. even the higher ups at work (jeep dealer) are talkin bout it still and sayin that they hope to see it too. guess we will wait and see if it gets a go. and if it does it will be out as a next year or 08 model from what I'm hearin. -alex
-
has anyone seen the commander jeep truck that was in this months Jp mag? its a complete computer generated thing made out of commander pics but it looks sweet. but i think that the gladiator concept is awesome. if they make that thing and it doesnt sway too far from the concept I'm all over one of those. :D but wasnt that rescue pretty cool too with how big and high it sat just stock?!
-
very true but engine swap price is out of my range for now any ways. i will be putting a 3.4 in it in the future.
-
just sittin here wondering what i should do to my mj next when it hit me. idk which tranny my 86 2.8L 4x4 auto has in it. is it the 904, 909, or the 999? or are the others it could be? and is there any way to swap in an aw4? so any help would be nice.

hey thx i will let you know once i get it if i need any help. -
is it an auto or manual? on ur lift u can get kits from roughcontry.com pretty cheap that are made for the mj. and they have 3,4.5,and6 inches of lift. if u go with the 33" tires do the 6 inches of lift. and also if you go with 33"ers go higher then 4.10 gearin. do 4.56 or 4.88. also what might be a tad easier to do then hack the unibody is to get a short bed and xtend the frame that the bed sits on to the length of a longbed truck then redo your cab. i had a friend talkin of doin this if he bought my 88 sb but he decided not to buy it cuz he wanted sumthin newer.
