1986 Comanche ADVISE please
GirsMJ86 replied to twojeeps's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
thats what i did with my 86 even if it did have the 2.8 it was still my fav truck out of the three so far. idk why but i really liked it. who knows. and the 2wd on these things work better then most other trucks 4wd systems so it would be good how it is really. if you want an MJ get the 86 for now if you can't find a 4.0 in your price range. very cool. if you are going to have an info/write up section i did the CAD fix to my 91 and have pics and stuff in my 91 4x4 project in the projects section on here. Alex

1986 Comanche ADVISE please
GirsMJ86 replied to twojeeps's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
if it is late enough in the year then it can take a 4.0 with little mods (rad bars and stuff) nuthing to the firewall. but as long as you don't get a 2.8 that is not running right then anything will work with the correct gears and stuff. the 2.5 is a good engine just not as fast as the 4.0 for the most part. i say go for it. i miss my 86 because it had selec-trac and no rust. i say if the body and frame is good then get it and throw selec-trac stuff under it for a 4x4 swap. my CC don't work anyways because of the vac leak and i bet the relay is out or something. it would be nice if it worked but I'm not too worried. although i wish all my vent settings worked rather then just the def vents, but thats a vac problem too and I'm too lazy to mess with vac leaks. Alex

well i hooked the VSS up to the cordless drill like you said to try and it worked. so i don't know what the problem was. teeth look fine and everything. i put it back in and it works. idk I'm sort of lost as to why it happened in the first place now. oh well as long as its fixed i don't care then. Alex

well all wires and unit looks good by the TC. unless it is something internal, which i don't feel like messin with right now. Alex Would the CAD fix in any way mess things up? i had to use the 4wd on slick roads the other day when it was wet out. just a hunch.

yep the rest of my gauges work just fine (other then the gas gauge witch is backwards from crossed wires). i will check the sender. and yea I'm startin to miss my 86 since it was rust free and easy stuff to fix minus the crappy 2.8 in it. Alex

actually its all electrical. i was hopeing it was something easy like a cable but on 91s there was no cable. i looked on the truck and in the manuals. the manuals are not tellin me crap other then it is electrical which i already knew. Alex

ok i was on my way to the gas station because i needed to be somewhere by 2. well that is not going to happen now. i noticed my speedo was not workin as i was going down the road. any ideas? its a 91 4.0L 4x4 with the CAD "fix". any help would be nice since i am running late and might not be able to make it now. Alex

i have called and done the online tech help many times when it first got put in since my grandparents have no clue what i am talkin bout most the time. i get lucky and have to fix their pc screw-ups almost everytime i see them. i have never had any problems with their RR cept when it was first put in, it wouldnt stay connected. most the time just their pc and not my laptop. it runs nice now after about a half a year maybe. unless his lights were not on. looks like they might not have been since you can't see light in front of the truck from the headlights. Alex

this is why i have connections with friends that are mechanics and the fact that i use to work at the jeep dealership so i have plenty of ends i can get just the parts from so i can do it myself. unless i don't feel like doing something then i take it to one of my friends and it gets done for cheap. Alex

mansfield. if it was waldo i would be able to get it back with no problem since we like know everyone in that town. Alex

from what i would think, i don't think it would work. the tank on XJs sit up in the rer so they don't hang out below the rear end. also it would really be in the way for an MJ that does any sort of off-road stuff that needs the nice angle in the back. best way i figure to do duals would be use a fuel cell in the bed. but rather then that just use as big of a cell you can fit in the bed and remove the stock tank. just my .
