I know that the one back VA. was a joke, as you couldn't be "hit" for some thing if it wasn't there...I.E. backup light- remove the socket, and no problem. If the socket was there, then the light HAD BETTER WORK. Holes in the floorboard- put the carpet back in. Duh. What a joke. Ky, now that is different. Goes by population size I.E. Louisville had a "sniffer" test but you could fail and get a "repair quote" for over $500 to fix it, and no more test. ???? Around here... Man you should see some the crap driving around. I think that some of those rides require a Tetnas booster just to look at, and that some them have allready been THROUGH the crusher. :shake:

Ahh, St. Croix is okay, but the Netherlands side of St. Matren was off the hook....4 mile long nude beach, and Wheelin. Of course, the $ 1.00 Hienys' on the pier were a nice touch too. :D Oh, and the night life was BANGIN'. Casinos', clubs beachfront parties. Damn, I wanna go back sooo bad sometimes, and then my wife speaks up " If you go, don't bother coming back. I don't wanna know." Now, I f I can just figure out how to get me and the MJ out of here............... :rotf: Anytime the busdriver says the road is right there, and all you see is a trail, you know that you are gonna' have a good time.

Finished swapping the nose over. And started building a new winch mount/brushguard style bumper. :clapping: Oh, and finally fixed the passenger side door so that you DON"T have to slam it to get it to close. :chillin:

I would like the Shark cake with a small salad and leave the bottle. Chardoney, '46. Thank you. That IS entertaining. I wonder if the Comanche Club offers valet parking too. edit for spelling

The 2.5 and the 4.0 use the same CPS bolts. I usally get them from the junkyard for nothing, along with other hardware that nobody ever seems to want, until they can't find theirs. I tend to collect these bolts and throttlebody bolts, bumper bolts and other such like the IRS collects back taxes. :D

The actual linkage on the T-case and the cross-over are the same. The difference comes from having a MAUNAl or Auto tranny to start/end with, as the body side pivot is in a differnet position, and you need the the bodyside bracket to match the tranny that you are going to use. The hole in the bracket is farther back for the manaul trans. I "think" that there is a small difference is D/S length also. You can find the 242 in the more loaded model XJs', as my Laredo as the 231, and everything BUT an Auto trans, but the 242 was an option. The Limited models are your best shot. What out for the mid 1990 model change over from the 21 spline input to the 23 spline that was used until the end of production.

Sale confirmed.

Started changeing the nose over to the late model XJ, plus stole the new tires off the XJ to get a couple of pix, and see if I like the look on the MJ. Oh, yeah. fixed the d/s rear brake so that it works, instead of just being an empty drum.

From what you have stated as far as your driving goes, I would go with the 242, esp. New England tends to get hammered in the winter, then take forever to dry out. With you only lightly offroading, you should have no trouble. I run a 242 in my MJ, and I play on/in everything- mud, rocks, snow, ice, drag racing and drifting. Pretty much anything that I can get into. Of course, the final choice is yours, allthough, I do agree that the 231 has more/better aftermarket support, I have not had any trouble with my 242.

A couple of questions to make it easier to figure this out: 1) How much lift are you dealing with, i.e. 3", 4.5" or .... 2) as for the SYE, what are your angles running, esp. at the X-case?
-
You need the steel plate the goes between the AX and the crossmember. It has a "step" in it and it is a real PITA to replicate, also make sure to get the transfercase linkage bracket for the AX, as the one from the 'goat is incorrect.

How to remove 97+ XJ parts quickly?
ren replied to 87Warrior's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Looks like you got a set of H-4 conversion headlights in the deal, too. -
Played in the mud   ......Dadgum, it was cold out there today! :ack:

Well, nice to know that this can work. I called the local parts house and they said that the boxes usaed different mounts and stub stickout. Oh, well. Something learned for the day. :waving:
-
Nope, different mounts, and stub stickout for the column to hook to.

Damn, that bites. Is the MJ not fixable at all, or do you not want to chop the framerails and rebuild it? I manged to bend one side "up" so I pulled the bed, relief cut the frame rail, and pressed down on it with a backhoe. I then welded/plated the cut and called it a day.

Adopted an '88 MJ that some one dumped in my driveway. BEFORE I got to go anywhere... :fs1: :fs1: At least let me LEAVE the house before stuff gets dropped off. Oh well. The title is junked and it is a base "sportruck" anyway... anybody need 2.5 stuff? I thinkthat I know what farm it came from, so the title IS junk. But, it has a better bed than mine, a bedliner, with tailgate piece, factory slider window, and a grey interior with mini console and bench seat. Lots of color match parts there. And a friend wants me to come over tomorrow and haul off the Grand Waggy behind the barn.... More parts, just in time for the weekend.

question on 87 to 90 242 transfer case
ren replied to comanche87's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
The biggest trouble witht he 5spd/242 combo is that since it wasn't a factory option, you will have to watch the length of the input shaft "stick-out" on the 242, since it came from an auto. I believe the biggest problem is that the seal area is in a different location on the manual, but you can get an extended seal for this. Let me look and I will see if I can find the number for you. -
Yep. Check this out. Help! brand PN 82560 oil adapter and cooler gasket assortment. This is a multi pack, but I paid like $3 and change for it, and it has the "O" rings for the 4.0 up to 1996 in it, along with some others for GM stuff. You can get Help! stuff at just about any decent parts house. If they can get Dorman branfd stuff, then this should be available, also, as Help! stuff is Dorman.I keep 2 sets in the shop.

I have had a cop ask me "why the heck did you put a Jeep nose on a Toyota?" I told that he needs to pay better attention to what he is was looking at before he asked a question, and replied with " well, that might be true, but I figured that you'd be a smarta$$ anyway, what with the Jeep/Toyota truck thing." I decide to be quiet, at least verbally, and was thinking that this clown needed to pay more attention to his donuts than the traffic around him. :shake:

Maybe the tailshaft bearing is going bad, and letting the D/S flop around in the housing nc making the noise that way? I think that if you can wiggle the D/S a bit at the X-case, then it might be a good idea to pul the 'shaft and see if you can wobble the tailshaft around any. It is not supposed to move and if it does, then I would def. consider the bearing to be bad.

Check the tranny mount for play, as this is a common noise to come from under the truck. Also, bad motor mounts will let the motor "roll" and cause the exhaust to bang on the crossmember.
