  1. Mine does the exact same thing. Here's the real crazy part: When I lifted my Jeep, I used my dads steering box and power steering pump that already had a drop pitman, and I gave him my power steering box (he took the lift off his XJ right as I put one on my MJ, it worked perfectly, actually). On his XJ, with my power steering pump and box, the power steering worked perfectly. With his pump and box on my Jeep, same issue. Coincidence? Probably. But something doesn't make sense... :???:
  2. If you're not having bump steer with your RE one, maybe I'll put the OTK on and just see what it's like. I'm a broke high school kid, I have to buy it a few parts at a time!
  3. Thank you for the information! Payday was Wednesday, I'm buying the steel for the sliders tomorrow! Originally I was thinking of using 2/6 1/8 wall, but I decided on 3/16 for a little extra strength! I'll let you know how it goes!
  4. Me? Take lots of pictures?? Have you seen my build thread? :rotfl2: I take pictures of everything! I think I'm gonna go with the JCR OTK steering. I run the same track bar (the RE1660). I was talking to the mastermind mechanic at the Ford dealer I work at and he agreed I should definitely do OTK steering. As for bump steer, he thought I would most likely get it (and possibly a death wobble) with the way the track bar is now. I think my plan is to purchase all of the steering box modifications first and install them so I don't damage my unibody rail with the 35s. Then, I'll save up for the OTK steering kit, the sway bar relocation brackets, the track bar bracket, the track bar itself. I was reading the reviews on the JKS track bar relocation bracket, along with the sway bar relocation. If I go this route with the steering mentioned above, what track bar would I run? Also, I priced out the WJ steering. I like shiny new parts. I couldn't bring myself to put JY brakes on my Jeep. I literally JUST bought pads, calipers, and rotors for my Jeep, along with the braided steel brake lines (which I know I could use with the WJ brakes). I think the WJ steering is a little out of my price range, but having the dual piston calipers sure would be nice. Thanks for all the input guys! You guys have REALLY made this a lot easier!
  5. I'm 17. I got my Comanche when I was 15 though, and that's when I joined Comanche Club haha
  6. looks like this its gonna run me like 600 bucks to do it complete. I like the IRO steering too. No matter what, OTK is the way to go. Trimming the front axle and relocating the track bar seems to be a must...
  7. ill have to check them out. I have no problem going OTK. Which it seems like OTK is the best option. But man it's expensive...
  8. you can't mount an XJ hub on the WJ knuckle? My brother has a WJ so I peaked under it at the passenger side knuckle. They seem pretty identical besides where the tie rod and drag link mount... I really like the idea of the offset TREs. What if I do the JCR UTK (So I don't have to buy ANOTHER track bar). Then if it hits my diff cover, which I'm sure it will, the ARB cover is giant, I can buy the offset tie rod ends. Seems like that's the most logical choice....
  9. the IRO track bar says it helps stop bump steer, whats the difference in that one and my RE one? because it doesn't change the location..
  10. with the heavy duty OTK steering from IRO, what track bar do I use? I have an adjustable RE track bar in the stock location now.
  11. thanks for the help guys! really digging the steering box bracing! definitely going to order some of that! As for the WJ knuckles, my dad mentioned that before. How strong is the stock steering? I really like the jcr stuff, but seems like you could "do it yourself" easily with the iron rock stuff. offset tie rod ends is definitely an option to. I want to beef up the steering, so ill probably do the steering box bracing. As for the steering itself, Ill have to do some addition to see what it will all cost...
  12. does that need to be done with every OTK setup?
  13. will do. When you relocate the track bar mount you just put it on the top of the axle?
  14. did you have to move your track bar?
  15. I have a 1990 MJ short bed, lifted 6 inches on 35s. I want to ditch the 2 piece stock steering and do something much stronger. I have looked at both UTK and OTK but there are so many options out there. I'm fine with UTK but I've heard a lot of kits (like the JCR one I was sold on for a while) will hit aftermarket diff covers like the ARB one I have. I guess my question is what is a good steering system that won't break the bank but is going to be a good setup? Welding, reaming, etc isn't a problem for me. I've heard you have to change your track bar location when you go OTK? Any help/opinions is greatly appreciated. Thanks guys!
  16. My brother bought a 4 inch RC short arm for his TJ. Been 3 years and it's actually holding up pretty well. He sold the Jeep to a friend of mine who has wheeled the crap out of it. The bent arms give you a lot more clearance than just straight ones like the RE short arm like my dad's XJ had. But those had rebuildable and greasable joints. and much more heavy duty. I was planning on installing those until I got my RC long arm. I'm actually impressed with it.
  17. Ive had a bit of experience with RC, Ive found to stay away from their shocks and coils. But a good friend of mine has ran the RC kit for a few years now, he told me you need to rebuild the joints once a year to get good life out of them. The problem with the RC kits is that even though the joints are greasable, they do not spread it out enough. He rebuilds it and greases it every winter.
  18. You're probably right. 5 is about minimum on SOA
  19. Also, I bit the bullet yesterday and got a speedo gear. My chart said 37 tooth, but Dana said 36. I went with the 36 and it seems to be accurate.
  20. I picked up a set of 4 35x12.5R15 KM2s to replace my 33x10x.5R15 KM2s. I'm geared at 4.56, so 35s should be perfect! I stayed after work until 7:30 PM (Off at 5:30) to dismount the tires from the 15x10 wheels and dismount my tires from my wheels, then mount the 35s on my wheels. Then of course I decided to wash it, because why not? Here they are all mounted up. First thing I noticed is they rub pretty good when turning. The winch/bumper put quite a bit of weight on the front end, making it sag a little, and it wasn't level when I first lifted it. I'm cutting all that out when I do my sliders, so I have no problem taking an angle grinder to them. They fill up the fender wells a lot better than the 33s did Of course, flex test is in order. This is fully flexed with the sway bars connected. The rear doesn't even touch The front doesn't rub with the sway bar connected, but I'd bet it would if I turned the wheel. Once I level it out (hopefully this saturday?) It won't come close
  21. Yea it comes with the skid, its not installed though. I have driven it with the long arm. Probably put around 2,000 miles on it. I really like it. Tons more flex and a lot smoother on the road.
  22. Thank you! For my friend's birthday, he wanted to go 4 wheeling in eastern Washington. My family and I have camped in an area called Lion's Rock. There are some decent trails around and its a great spot to camp. Here is our trip We headed out mid day and got to Love's in Ellensburg in the early afternoon. Camp site Friend's parents brought their Rover and Air Stream Day 2 we set out exploring early in the morning. The views up here are breathtaking We met these 2 super cool older dudes with old Jeeps. They showed us where some trails were in the area Lunch time The hardest part of the day was the last trail we decided to go on. There was a washout that cut the road diagonally. I was leading, and I put it in low range, first gear and crawled straight up it. I made it over without spinning a tire. The guy behind me didn't get on it perfectly straight, which caused him to spin a his tires. This chewed it up for the rest of the guys, and I had to end up winching all 3 of them up The mud was sticky and nasty We got back to camp right about dark. Ate dinner and went to bed early. Before we left for home the next day, I definitely wanted to take a photo of the truck My friends parents took the easy way down the mountain because they had the trailer. My friends and I decided to take logging/ORV roads all the way back to Ellensburg. My tire grabbed a rock and threw it at my mirror My friends aired up with my compressor and we went home
  23. Yea it bolted on just fine I just cut the brackets so it will fit around the unibody support. Here's the finished product. I drilled a new hole on the support side, because it was trimmed off. Reason for posting: When I was considering purchasing, I found no info on the subject.
