could be because republicans today aren't the conservatives they say they are. they are a bunch of neo-cons.

good luck. i'd like to see how this turns out as well.

Ah. Now we're getting somewhere. You hadn't previously said what engine is in your MJ. Since you have a 2.8L, the logical swap for you is a GM 3.4L (must come from a rear-wheel drive vehicle such as a Camaro). The block is the same as the 2.8L, so you don't need motor mount adapters, you can use your existing bell housing and transmissions, etc. YMMV but if I were in your situation I would sell the 4.3L and buy a 3.4L. i assumed you already knew, suppose i shouldn't assume. you had given me a bit of information in another topic that was about swapping the 2.8L with the 258 I6, i don't know if you remember that topic. so the 3.4L fit right in? i won't have to worry about what's already equipped on the truck not being powerful enough for the 3.4 then?

I understand that you have the V6. My point is that the 4.3L GM V6 is a wide, 90-degree engine that is basically a Chevy small block V8 with two cylinders chopped off. There is nothing about it that's compatible with an XJ or MJ. By contrast, the GM 2.8L/3.1L/3.4L V6 is a smaller, narrower 60-degree engine. The 2.8L version was used in the 84 thru 86 XJ and the 86 MJ, and it's the same block as the later 3.1L and 3.4L. Being smaller, lighter, and narrower than a 4.3L, all things being equal the 3.4L is a much better choice for an MJ because you can use MJ motor mounts, transmission, transfer case, exhaust system, etc. Your original question used the expression "drop in." That suggested to me that you're looking for an easy swap. The 4.3L can be done and has been done, but it's far from being a "drop in" swap. my bad, i thought you were referring to a v8. i know that i would have to replace quite a bit of parts if i did the 4.3L swap. i should have worded my original question better then. no i am just looking for a much better engine all around, rather than having that gutless piece of $#!& 2.8L. about the only good use for that would be an anchor.

i know it's not carbed. it's in a 95' gmc safari. i don't know if it's tbi or vortec, i haven't check, i just know it's a 4.3L and that's really about it and it's fuel injected.
-
i don't have the V8. it's a 6 cylinder. is there any difference between the two? right now it sounds like there's quite a lot more work that i had thought. guess i'll sell the junker to afford a new engine then. what might you suggest, engine wise? some have suggested the 3.4L.
-
i have an old GMC van that has been sitting around for the past, i would say six years, it has a 4.3L engine in it. would it be possible to drop this engine into my manche? would it even be worth while? figured since i still have that junker sitting around, rather than spend any more money than i have to, that i might give it a go, that is if it would even be worth it.

i don't even see how it is possible to mistake a toyota for a jeep. it probably says "Toyota" on the tailgate, as well as other places on and in the vehicle. that's pretty funny.

if you used a long bed for a trailer you might even be able to make a small pop up camper out of it. get a train going with all the truck beds. that trailer is pretty awesome.

GM 173 V6 swap for AMC 258 I6

i have a big enough hammer. it's not something that i would be looking forward to doing though. what else would you need to get if you swapped in the 4.0L? -

damn, the inside was a mess. good luck with it, for 60$ i would say that's a steal, thought i don't know how much it would cost to fix the interior. -

GM 173 V6 swap for AMC 258 I6
tkgibbs27 replied to tkgibbs27's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
i haven't done any swapping yet, i was talking with a friend about my original intentions on dropping the 258 I6 in it and he told that a 4.0L would be better. i did check the sticker on the drivers side door, but all the lettering is basically all faded away, so i couldn't really tell. could i check it by my VIN number? -
Why you want to ruin a perfectly good forum with politics? this forum is for "General chit-chat and everything non-tech or non-Comanche goes here", allowing me to post such a topic. i am curious to know who people are going to vote for or considering voting for.
-
so what do they do there? i agree to an extent. i don't trust politicians, reguardless of if they're right wing or left wing or anywhere inbetween. ahh, the lovely lesser of X evils...i supose i could trust a politician if there was significant evidance to point to him/her being trustworthy, but hasn't happened yet. however, there are also those who exagerate the truth to make consipiracies. it works both way, and danger lies more in the subtilties of partial truth than in blatent lies. yeah i pretty much agree with what you have said. i didn't think of that aspect of the conspirators, and it is very true, some do exaggerate, and some do pull up b/s conspiracies out of there asses. either way you have people who twist the truth.
-
ron paul has my vote.
-
who are you guys voting for?
-
hahaha. that's the most disgusting thing i have ever see so far in my life. a friend of mine showed it to me about a month ago, i couldn't even watch the whole thing.
-
you know people have gotten the word "conspiracy" all twisted up and think that conspirators are crazy people. i can't even fathom the idea of believing 3/4ths of what our government tells the american people. all conspiracy theorists are, are people questioning the governments stories that they have told the american people and dig deeper into the story. they aren't lunatics, just people looking for the truth rather than believing a b/s story. so in all reality these people have much more in their heads than people who believe everything they see and hear on the news or read in the newspapers because they question it. there's hardly any truth in the world anymore, it's all covered up, has been changed and misinterpreted. everyone believes what they want to believe though, even without facts. by the way, word of mouth is about just as good as reading info. on wiki. anyone can tell you anything, even if it's not true. your best chance of understanding the whole thing is to do research about it yourself. otherwise if you are just going to get your information from other people, you might as well just go to wiki.

GM 173 V6 swap for AMC 258 I6
tkgibbs27 replied to tkgibbs27's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
If you want to be able to get decent highway fuel mileage AND have a half-decent off-road crawl ratio, you need an overdrive, which the 3-speed auto doesn't offer. The ideal would be an AW4, but finding the right bell housing is virtually impossible. So ... the alternative is a 5-speed manual. If you know how to drive a manual tranny and don't mind shifting, then by all means do the swap. i'd much rather have a manual. i will most likely do the swap then. thanks. -
GM 173 V6 swap for AMC 258 I6
tkgibbs27 replied to tkgibbs27's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
An automatic is "better" than a manual for hard-core rock crawling, but even that can be done with a manual if geared correctly. For fishing trips and fire roads, IMHO an automatic doesn't offer any advantages. I've run some moderately tough trails in both my XJ and the '88 MJ ... both have 5-speeds. The XJ even still has the factory 3.08 gears. so would you suggest switching to a manual transmission?
