Guess I'll just have to try it then..... :-)
-
I realize they are completely different but lets just say I leave the pedals, 96 column, heater box and harness from the 96 in the vehicle. I already have to make new dash mounts because of my interior roll bar and from my measurements the center of the column seems to be in the same place even though the columns mount completely different. I was just thinking it would be cool to update to the new dash since I'll only be using the shell of the dash anyway..... no electronics.... I'll also be mounting the HVAC controls from the old dash into the custom console.....

I was going to go with a metal dash but really like how the new style one look...... I have the 96 harness and column (to replace my 91 harness and no-tilt column) my question is has anyone ever tried to hang the 97 + dash over the 96 column. I'll still be using the 96 harness and I'll be going full gauges and a custom center console so hvac won't we an issue either. I did some quick measuring the other day and the steering column seemed to be located in the same location for both body styles...... any thoughts?

Picked up a set of black 04 black WJ seats over the weekend...... also a set of sliders and floor bracket from a set of 98 XJ seats....... hopefully the MJ will get the cage finished up this week and I can start putting the interior back in.

H3RESQ's Dream MJ, the build continues...

I'm in the same boat on Garage work..... I retired from the Navy and built a house about 4 years ago. Put in a nice 2 car that she quickly claimed putting her 3000 GT on one side and her Mazda 6 on the other...... Next came Drywall...... paint....... blinds..... molding and 2 vents for climate control. Other than changing oil and bolt on stuff I have to go ask my brother for use of his one stall. -
What I wouldn't give to be able to source a 2500 front clip....... very nice job
-
I built that in my brothers garage from my hood and an old lime green one..... just threw down some lines and cut out the wedges. After that I rolled a 1.5" piece of pipe down low and a 2" piece at the top and started welding. As far as I know nobody makes an aftermarket Cowl induction hood for our Jeeps anymore.

Being only five foot six inches I didn't want anything above the dash, a buddy is lending me a set of dimple dies that work with an impact so I'm definately going to open those up. Thanks Guanaco..... the hood it really did turn out nice..... I'm really wishing now that I hadn't sold it....

Coming from a guy who owns my favorite MJ on the planet and isn't afraid to scratch the paint ........that means alot...... thanks

I do wheel this thing hard..... and the one thing I'm certain of is that it will eventually end up on it's top. I don't like the down bars in the windshield because they just make it harder to see, however, in almost every MJ/XJ roll over pic you'll see the center of the roof caved in, this is the only reason I had these installed. I'm hard on this Comanche but that doesn't mean I don't love it and want it to last as long as possibe. Next I'm going to cut out the sheetmetal on the outside skin of the A-pillar and sink my rub rail into it as deep as possible. Once the bar gets to the roof it will lay on the drip rail and get tied into the interior roll cage with two peices of tubing running through the roof. after the rub rail leaves the roof it will bend down and toward the center of the truck and become the down bar of the bed cage. I need protection from rocks and trees but I hate an EXO......

My cage guy got the A-Pillar support plates cut and welded in last night...... The support is about 2 inches wide so I think I'll try and hole-saw some 1 3/4 holes them.
-
Wow that color really pops...... nice choice....
-
I never thought of doing something like that...... now you got me thinking..........
-
I bet people stare when you drive down the road......

Started on my cage over the weekend.... finished up the inside but still need to finish the a pillar rub bars and the bed cage. Here is the rear hoop..... with the support bars This is the down bar, it has 3 bends and 2 twists and runs from the frame to the rear bar .... Here is the rear bar in the truck.... check how closely the down bar hugs the passenger side roof..... This pic showes the upper window bar and center roof bar in place. Now that everything is tacked in time to drop the cage and weld it up.... Here is the cage with the frame mounts fabricated and the welding done..... This was one of the toughest bars, I wanted to keep my dash so my buddy used a piece of 1.5 DOM to hug the firewall and tie into the down tubes. This will allow me to reinstall the dash and hide the support bar. Finally we got to the last two tubes, these required alot of coping but I really like how they turned out.....

Hey craig I posted a pic of your Jeep with the hood I sold you under my post..... Project Comanche Chief..... didn't know you had a post or I would have dropped it here.... you going to make Ivy in September with us?
-
I really like his rig, we seem to have alot of MJ's in our area... I can think of 5 in our club alone.....
-
Here are a couple pics of the hood after he painted it.... I'll eventually have to make myself another one....
-
Believe it or not I just sold my hood the other day...... the buddy I sold it to just painted his truck so I'll try and post a pic or two of it..... it really turned out well..... just exactly how I had hoped it would look. We have a new Off Road Park that opened up about an hour and a half away that requires roll over protection for black and double black trails. So I sold off my cowl induction hood and saved a few dollars and now it's time to take the MJ to our resident club cage guy for fitting....... I plan to plagiarize the Zone Off Road Project MJ cage, it may not be exactly the same but it will definitely be my inspiration (hope those guy's don't mind). I'll also add an A-Pillar rub rail that ties into the interior cage through the a pillar and roof that rolls off the back of the cab and turn into the main down bar in my bed cage. Here are a few pics of the stripped interior (after the pic was taken a buddy came by and pulled the windshield and rear glass)....

This has to be in my top 5 Comanches of all time..... very nice..... guess you got to be a regular around here to get any love though...... LOL
-
He Jon do you know how many hours it took him to mold those in? Just wondering how much it's gonna cost me to talk him into putting them in my bed before he paints it....
-
Morris really has that thing looking good..... see if you can get some updated pics of the tail lights.....
-
The day I built that hood I didn't even plan to do it, I showed up at my brothers and we were BS'ing and the talk turned to hoods, we started throwing around ideas of how it should be cut, then he threw some lines down and I started cutting. Once we added the side pieces in I took it over to my buddies and he did a few hours of body work and it was done. So I started the day with plans to work on suspension and ended up with a hood. So sorry I didn't even bring my camera that day.......

Cool... thanks didn't think of looking for Non Jeep belts.....
