Tail light option.

Recommended Posts

Hey guys just kind of looking for opinions about this set up. See if anyone would be interested in them. This is mainly a mock up right now. I'm not the one doing them but a buddy of mine is making them. With our tails getting harder to find I am really leaning towards installing them on my 89. Any feedback back is welcome. I will pass it along to him. Thanks.

This is what he has came up with. Running led's. I'm interested in a set when he gets them finished.

It looks bad but also kind of dangerous. LEDs are directional so point them straight to the rear if you want people to see the light during all weather conditions.

IMO, a blank (no cutouts other than mounting) box that bolts in would be ideal. Then, people can use what they have or what they want in them. I like the idea of the rounded edge that matches the body.

Would be nice to potentially bolt on or integrate bed armor of sorts.  But nice boxes would be a great start.

There needs to be a diffuser in there somehow, that separates the red running/brake light from the amber directional lamp.  The way it's set up is like trying to light your way with a jack-o-lantern.  The red will wash out the amber and vice versa inside the hollow space.

IMO

Mine are good for a wheeler, they are 3/16" plate steel and match the contour of the bed.

The lights are Maxxima hybrid LEDs so everything is in one light.

I didn't want to have to worry about finding replacement lights if i broke one on a trail, the Maxxima lights are easy to get.
