From what I understand XJ and MJ tanks are completely different, and the pump bracketry is not swappable. The pic looks exactly like the bracket in my 91 though.

We were trying to figure out the same thing last night, because mine needs changed. The measurements for the 18 and 23.5 gallon tank are the same height. Not sure about the 16 gallon one though. Let me know if you find anything out.

I just got an email from this guy. Supposedly this one works for an 18 gallon tank which is the same height as the 23.5 gallon tank.

I was just doing some cross checking on these suggested combinations and I can find none of them that match up from XJ to MJ. The pumps are the same, but the sending units that they are mounted in are different.

Ok TAz, so what does that mean. Will the sending unit work or not?

From what I can see in my look-up system, the pumps are interchangeable from XJ to MJ, but the sending units are not. I can find no compatibility of sending units on any XJ to MJ application between '87 - '90.

 

That doesn't mean that it is 100% not going to work, but it is not likely from what I can see.

the airtex sending unit is not interchangeable between the xj-mj the float and sock are on the wrong side and it hits the baffle in the tank. i found this out the hard way. i searched all over called many dealers and no one had a new sending unit for my mj. the pump will fit in the mj sending unit

all the auto parts stores give the same part number for the xj and mj sending units
