MuXJ Posted Tuesday at 01:40 AM Posted Tuesday at 01:40 AM The original flare mounting points are gone, my bed was cut by PO. I really don't want armor, and I would really like an OEM look. The two options I thought of were 1. Notch Customs fiberglass flares or 2. Create fiberglass flares using 97-01 fenders, since I already did a 97-01 front end conversion and I have some laying around. Only stipulations are that the Notch flares are a pretty penny, and I'm not sure how I'd mount flares if I made them myself. Anyone have any suggestions or ideas? Thanks!
Pete M Posted Tuesday at 01:54 AM Posted Tuesday at 01:54 AM how much tire coverage do you want? I'm sure I've seen guys mount the factory units a bit higher up. can't get much more factory looking than factory.
MuXJ Posted Tuesday at 02:04 AM Author Posted Tuesday at 02:04 AM In this picture I'm running 35s and I don't think I'll go any bigger than that. Maybe I'll be able to sand down oem MJ flares to look more like the newer XJ flares?
neohic Posted Tuesday at 01:01 PM Posted Tuesday at 01:01 PM There was a DIY post on this a while back. Otherwise, TJ and JK flares have been talked about too. @1999MJ did it best with sanding his rear flares. Bunch of the pictures are dead but towards the end of the thread is where sanding the flares comes up.
ghetdjc320 Posted Tuesday at 01:58 PM Posted Tuesday at 01:58 PM Notch flares are truly a horrible fit. They look great once finished but the fit is ridiculous. If you really wanted to, you could restore the factory spots by grabbing the key parts bedside repair panels and trimming out the fender mounting portion and welding it to your bedsides.

I was leaning towards sanding down stock MJ flares, looks great and seems like the easiest route.

I agree, I think they're awesome but they're also quite huge. They might not look the best with 35s, I'd probably have to run at least 37s so they don't look ridiculous. Whatever I end up doing, I might try to mount them with what I have left of the original bed
MuXJ Posted Tuesday at 06:53 PM Author Posted Tuesday at 06:53 PM So I went and pulled some MJ rear flares, the metal mounting points are all rusted and shot. Could I just drill into the side my bed (what's left of it) and mount them with the plastic tabs the bolts go through?
Pete M Posted Tuesday at 09:44 PM Posted Tuesday at 09:44 PM don't see why not. what is holding the bedsides to the wheelwells? is it cut or folded or what?
MuXJ Posted Tuesday at 11:41 PM Author Posted Tuesday at 11:41 PM It's cut and fold I believe, I can take a better look and get pictures tomorrow
