Javelinmania Posted yesterday at 12:32 PM Share Posted yesterday at 12:32 PM I am wanting to upgrade my Comanche to have a Dana/Spicer 44 rear end. I will be towing a boat and want a stronger unit. I will upgrade the unit to a 4.10/4.07 if it is not already set up. I am in South Carolina, but can pick up any location east of the Mississippi River. Would consider crossing the river if not going too far.
89 MJ Posted yesterday at 01:15 PM Share Posted yesterday at 01:15 PM Are you dead set on it being a D44 for originality? Otherwise, a C8.25 from an XJ or KJ would be a good option.
Javelinmania Posted yesterday at 03:20 PM Author Share Posted yesterday at 03:20 PM I like the D44 for the ease of installation. The spring mounts are exactly the way they need to be. I don't know what it would take to modify one of the other options you mentioned. The easier they are to install the more I would be willing to switch. The nice thing about the Liberty axles is that they could be had with 4.10 gears. You would be time and money ahead changing the mounts on a 8.25 with 4.10s as opposed to buying a D44 and getting it regeared.
Javelinmania Posted yesterday at 03:35 PM Author Share Posted yesterday at 03:35 PM do you cut the mounts off the old D35 and weld onto the Liberty axle or do you obtain them form another source? Lots of Libertys in the junk yards.

JolietJEEP'84
I've got an XJ Dana 44 south of Chicago that I would sell. In box me if that's something you'd be interested in.

It actually makes the rear tires fit the width of the bedside.
