J33ps
Hello again! I'm going to be crawling under the truck tonight to disassemble and inspect. Fill plugs on that t-case are leaking but it's also leaking through the yokes. Not sure if it's both or just one. I recall the PO said he messed with the driveshaft but he couldn't tell me what exactly he did. It had a 3" lift which I've removed. It was some crappy RC springs and such. I think the leafs are stock. Anyway he was so vague and couldn't really remember what he did so now I'm thinking I need to confirm my shafts are correct, especially since I brought it back to stock. Do you guys know what a comanche stock setup is in regards to driveshafts? I plan to pull tonight and I can grab some measurements of mine. I'll snap some pics too maybe someone can spot something. Thanks!
Eagle_SX4
This thread is probably the best compilation of all the shaft lengths in stock form.
J33ps
Guess I didn't go far enough down the list in my search lol, thanks!
J33ps
Looks like it’s just leaking on the front yoke of the NP242. Curious about this yoke coming off the D35. It seems to be coning from the pinion but area and not the pinion seal in the axle. Is that a thing? (Pic)
J33ps
Also how do I know if my transmission mount is too loose? I noticed when I grab the rear driveshaft that I can visibly move the transferase up and down. Seems like the mount is spongy, I thought maybe is some rubber pad and it's supposed to have some give but that doesn't sound right given the purpose of the driveline lol. Is it balanced with a weld like that?

Judging by your reaction I may be best just sourcing some stock shafts XD

(Pic) Yes there supposed to be a seal under the pinion nut to stop oil from getting past the splines. I had this issue on my transfer case and just used some rtv instead of the seal and I haven't had any leaks.

The way to get away with breaking the rules is knowing which ones you can get away with while always having a plan B on reserve. That driveshaft is one to keep a plan B on standby. If the balance is off enough, I could see it being hard on bearings and seals.
Pete M
yup, an unbalanced shaft can ruin the pinion seal and bearings.
pizzaman09
If you have a local driveshaft shop, take it there and have it balanced Way cheaper usually than buying a driveshaft.
J33ps
Good point, I didn't think of that. The length seems fine, I'll see if they can balance it for me then. I'm looking at repair details. I've replaced the pinion seal on my D44 on the wrangler and it was interesting but not super difficult. The dana 35 seems about the same but I'm not getting why it's leaking at the pinion nut itself. That doesn't seem to have any washer or seal to keep fluid in. None of the videos show putting RTV on the splines like you might on the TC side. I guess replacing the pinion seal would fix my problem of it leaking at the center/nut area?
