guava_jelly
Hey Comanche Club, I'm looking for some advice on safely lifting the front of my 2WD Comanche. I've been reviewing the service manual, and it seems to suggest using the ends of the subframe rails as both the floor jack lifting point and the jack stand placement. To clarify, is it correct to: Use a floor jack to lift the truck at the end of the subframe rail? Then, place jack stands at the same location on the subframe rail, right next to where the floor jack was positioned? I just want to make absolutely sure I'm understanding the procedure correctly and doing it safely. Any tips or alternative methods you've found helpful would be greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance.
eaglescout526
Soooo I shouldn’t be using the front axle anymore? That’s what I’ve been doing with no problems. Course I suppose jacking by the front axle risks possible bending and stress.
pizzaman09
I have a friend with a 2 post lift, when lifting I use the subframe locations noted in the manual. The truck is a bit nose heavy but not too bad. I've definitely lifted from the axle tubes using a hydraulic jack then stuck jack stands under it. Though these trucks are tall enough that in stock form I usually just shimmy under the axle when it's on the ground on its tires.

On ALL versions of the MJ or XJ, the rear can be lifted by a Jack on the differential housing (aka “the pumpkin”) and Jack stands placed as shown in th OP diagram on the chassis near the front leaf spring attaching point. For the front of 2wd versions, I would Jack the front tube near the lower control arm attachment points, and place the Jack stands in the locations indicated in the shop manual. I am quite surprised that they caution against using a floor Jack on axle tubes, because I have been doing that on TONS of vehicles for the past 50+ years, including MANY Jeeps, and have never damaged any of them. AnotherOldJeepGuy
I have often put jack stands under the front axle but that was not chosen by any actual documentation. But when the height is sufficient and I am not pulling wheels I prefer my ramps.
