Dandxj
Has anyone disassembled/cleaned/reassembled a LSV before? Any precautions and guidance would be appreciated. Thanks
eaglescout526
Yes. It’s incredibly easy to do. All you really can take apart and service is the little spring valve inside the top portion of the assembly. I’ve tried to take apart where the piston is and it don’t budge. But the spring is where you want to clean and service as that can get either stuck open or closed. No precautions really. Might need an impact to break the seal between the body and the housing of the spring valve.

Dandxj Posted yesterday at 12:41 AM Author Share Posted yesterday at 12:41 AM Thanks for the reply. The top spring valve housing came off fairly easy. There is a little sludge but not too bad. I assume brake parts cleaner is appropriate for cleaning. You mentioned trying to take apart the piston. Is it inside the round portion behind the plastic cap and snap ring. I have not attempted to remove those. Would you recommend I just leave those alone? Is there usually brake fluid in the lower portion? I wonder if there is a fluid flow diagram available somewhere. eaglescout526 Posted yesterday at 02:01 AM Share Posted yesterday at 02:01 AM I tried to get where that bottom piston is apart, I could not so just leave it alone. as Ωhm above posted, just the inside needs to be good clean and rust free. Thats how I have been rebuilding them and selling them.
Dandxj Posted yesterday at 02:59 AM Author Share Posted yesterday at 02:59 AM Excellent cutaway! Can I assume that the spring is broken and the push rod/bottom piston that contacts the upper piston/plunger is missing? Do you recall what year truck the LSV is from? eaglescout526 Posted yesterday at 03:22 AM Share Posted yesterday at 03:22 AM Yes the spring is broken. It broke when the cutaway was being made. 86-92 valves are all the same.
Dandxj Posted yesterday at 03:35 AM Author Share Posted yesterday at 03:35 AM I am not trying to challenge anyone just trying to learn - but my parts list shows a different part number beginning in 1990. Also my 92 service manual says not to use the set up procedure for pre 1990 trucks. I do not know why or what the difference is. I have obtained a 1989 LSV and I am hoping to install it in a 1992 truck, so I guess I need to find the procedure for a 1989 MJ.
eaglescout526 Posted yesterday at 04:24 AM Share Posted yesterday at 04:24 AM Interesting. Well with 92's not being common, this could be something new for us.
