GirsMJ86
well when i got my hands on my 86 i found a few things wrong with it. one of them is that my fan switch only works on high. and that my C/C does not kick on. i was told they are relays but i wanted to see what everyone here thinks. also the switch in the door jam to turn the lights on in my driver side door quit workin the other day. so now when i open my drivers door the lights don't come on. the passenger side still works. so i was just wondering how i got to the wires for that switch? thx alot. alex
mjeff87
Fan switch problem is the resistor pack/switch attached to the blower motor wiring inside the cab on the passenger side. The cab light is probably a corroded door switch on the driverside, that isn't making a good ground to complete the circuit. No comment on the CC, as I don't have that creature comfort :D Jeff

pingpong
fan,CC, and interior lights..... Whats that stuff  Check the ground, and the vacum lines on the back of the heater control panel to see if they are working properly. CC, mine never worked either, and I never tried to get it to work. Patrick
mjeff87
Alex, For the blower, check this link: http://www.geocities.com/chmwatson/FAQs ... k_fix.html That's a repair you can make if you want. If not, replace the whole resistor pack. HTH, Jeff
87manche
I did that repair on my escort. Won't take long. I would recommend a resistive soldering iron. Like a "cold heat" style. A traditional soldering iron will destroy the thermal fuse if left in place too long. The other option is to put a heatsink between the thermal fuse and the conection your soldering. GirsMJ86
well ill give it a shot. and just to my luck i have one of the "cold heat" irons. ill let ya know if it worked. if not then i guess i have some parts huntin to do... or just swap the one out of my 88. alex
GirsMJ86
well i took it out from under the dash and its even easier then that guide link. there is no soldering! they just pull out and plug in to these brackets. ill get some pics up. right now I'm off to the local radioshack for a fuse. thanks alot jeff for that link. alex
GirsMJ86
ok i lied, it wasnt easy at all to get out. the thing was crimped in there. and i couldnt find one in any of the local stores. so i took the one out of the 88 and put in inplace of the one in the 86 (just the fuse not the whole relay because it wouldnt work). well now to say it works on all fan settings but it will ONLY blow out the defrost vents. it won't change to vent vents or bi-lvl or heat or anything other then the defrost vents. anyone got any ideas here? alex

87manche
check the vac hose that runs under the battery to the vacuum ball in the bumper. That's the one that did it for me, and whereit's located seems to make it pretty vulnerable.

If you have cruise control, you probably have two of the cans mounted next to each other.
GirsMJ86
thanks eagle. i will have to go look into it today or tommara. whenever i get the time. while i am at it i might as well look into why my c/c doesnt want to kick on. alex

GirsMJ86
well this is gonna be fun. i compared those pics to my v6 and i either don't have most of those color of hoses anymore or i need to do some serious hunting. i only looked at it real quick. i don't have much time to work on it right now with school getting ready to end and having big papers due. alex
