jeepmjga Posted February 5, 2025 Posted February 5, 2025 Hey all! Ended up breaking a chromoly rear shaft this past weekend on the old turdy five. Ive been searching high and low for a chromo replacement but looks like either no one is making them for the non c clip axle anymore or they backordered everywhere. Am i screwed or does anyone have any other suggestions? I have an 8.8 I'm going to build but was hoping to put it off a little longer if possible. I have a stock replacement but am guessing that won't last too long with my heavy foot haha.
ghetdjc320 Posted February 6, 2025 Posted February 6, 2025 You can get 1541 shafts on rock auto for a temp fix. That must have been quite the event to break a chromo shaft.

On the one hand it was a chromoly shaft. But it's a Dana 35. Chromoly only helps so much when the shaft diameter is that small. I would get a shaft that fits and limp it along while building the 8.8 sooner rather than later.
89 MJ Posted February 6, 2025 Posted February 6, 2025 Before you build the 8.8 rear, be aware that most of them are 1" narrower than the stock MJ rear. You might want to look into an Explorer Sport Trac rear, they are closer to the same width as the MJ rear.
