1999 MJ
I’ve tried figuring out how to interpret the data, from my build sheet that @jdog provided. For example, I’m not sure what some of the 3 letters mean. "JGB" / "CGW" / "MFD”, etc…. Also, for the decoding I’m not understanding: ”APA" - Monotone Paint, but what color. -SA - Charcoal, but what’s that mean? Charcoal canister for emissions? "MBF" Bright Rear Bumper? Does that mean Chrome? "WJN" - 15 Aluminum Wheels? Was only the turbine rims available? "NHQ" - what’s a transmission heater, on a manual transmission? Fuel tank size? There are several other decoding letters I’d like to figure out / get an explanation to. If someone could point me in the direction, that would be awesome. Maybe once the decoding definition gets put up, maybe it could be made as a sticky, so it’s always at the top for each model year?
jdog
Chrysler reuses tthe codes constantly, so the items you have mentioned have all been re-used for different models over the years. The 3 letters are item codes or options codes for chrysler to know what was ordered. Pete has been slowly gathering factory build sheets and window stickers to figure out and correct the codes. But there is not many left and very hard to come by.
Pete M
yeah, I've tried to sit down and organize stuff to figure it out, but it's such a daunting task I quickly shelve it for another day. not only are a lot of the codes reused, but your truck is also missing a ton of codes because the chrysler computers literally don't have some of the the 86-90 info. your build sheet should be much longer. if you look at a 91 or 92's build sheet, it'll show you what I mean. eaglescout526
Only one other person could pull more accurate codes but I haven’t seen him on in a long while. But I honestly wouldn’t look to much I to decoding all the letters. They’re just itemized letters for different specs like others have said. Not like we’re working on ford or GM cars where you’re hard pressed to make your car as it left the factory. We have Jeeps. We can build them how we want. Thank you for taking the time to run the VIN & post the information.

I’m going to have to do some digging around. I was surprised with my truck, that it used to be a I6 & someone converted it to a 4 cylinder. Now I’m curious to know what the transplanted drivetrain is.

If the dash was swapped at some point the vin plate may have not been changed out. (I've seen this in a junkyard XJ) Check the tag under the hood by the drivers side hood hinge and see if the vin matches.
