Rev hang issue

I’ve tested TPS, MAT, CTS, and power steering switch. And replaced O2, ISA, and all the vacuum lines. I’ve removed my throttle cable and lubed it. While I was doing that I also sprayed intake cleaner around the throttle body to check for any manifold leaks. I can’t find anything wrong. Where do I go from here?

Yes, you should. For some reason that particular ground is especially sensitive on the 4 bangers.

I'd re-do that and all the connectors and other grounds just so you know it's done. I'd even ADD a ground there in conjunction with the crappy braided one.

You've read my Tips 1 through 5 right?

Hmmmmmmmmm

from Tip 1:

The Renix era XJs and MJs were built with an under-engineered grounding system for the engine/transmission electronics. One problem in particular involves the multiple ground connection at the engine dipstick tube stud. A poor ground here can cause a multitude of driveabililty issues, wasted time, failed emission tests, and wasted money replacing components unnecessarily.

All the components listed below ground at the dipstick tube stud:

Distributor Sync Sensor, TCU main ground, TCU “Shift Point Logic”, Ignition Control Module, Fuel Injectors, ECU main ground (which other engine sensors ground through, including the Oxygen sensor, Knock Sensor, Cruise Control and Transmission Sync signal. All extremely important stuff.

So I'm still fighting what feels like a ghost. The only sensor or ground I haven't checked is the MAP. If I rev the truck it works great. Only hangs after being under load. The issue is worst going up a hill shifting from 1st to 2nd. Very occasionally it doesn't do it at all. :dunno:

Check the ground, see what resistance exists between it and the ground at the battery. It’s interesting that you have this random rev hang on a 2.5L. Let me do some

more thinking and reading on this to see if I can come up with any other probable causes.

How is the Closed Throttle Switch (CTS) tested? Can you use D2_13 and D2_7 for testing purposes. ECU might need to know this information for IDLE.

I've never heard of the closed throttle switch before and I'm not experienced with using the diagnostic ports for testing. I'm not apposed to using them, I'll just need to learn how. I've been wanting to get REM for a while however its out of stock.

I've seen other peoples 2.5's with a WOT switch. Mine doesn't have this, is it supposed to?

No. 87-90 did not have this. Only the YJ and 86 XJ and MJ had said switch. It was replaced by the power steering pressure switch as a WOT switch.
