Coils.....

Hey guys, I have a question for yall. I have a chance to get a Free set of coils from one of my buddies. I'm not sure what he has, but he has alot of 4x4 and 2x4 trucks..

 

My question is what coils could I use on my MJ to lift it. I didnt know if you could use fullsize truck coils in em' and which would work? If anyone knows this please tell me..

Ford p/u truck coils will work also. But they are very stiff riding.

 

PM Opie over on the Mothership, he was messing around with these last year.

One guy out there used '79 F-150 coils. He basically said that it hurts.

I think some of the early model ford coils will work, problem is spring rate is to stiff. New coils are not that expensive. In most cases they are around 125, unless you start going over 6" then they get around the 150 zone. To me it isnt worth the hassle to buy used parts, that might give me some lift, or might not.

 

Sometimes the cheap way is the more expensive way in the long run

I've read fullsize Dodge coils will work too.

Well you say that they are stiff riding, but how well do they flex? I'm really limited on money, I'm buying a tranny, t-case, Ford 8.8, and a locked D30. So i'm really trying to go cheap on the coils. I know you can just lift the back with SOA...

Another thing is the UCA and LCA.. My dad has a set of 4" LCAs... they are fixed.. so i'm goign to use them, but the uppers I don't know what i'm going to use. Does anyone know the cheapest/best UCA's and Udjustable Trac bar?

If it won't flex on speed bumps, it won't flex on the rocks is what's on my mind, but correct me if I'm wrong.

I heard something about ford tbird coils, but you have to make a plate for them cause they're too small for the stock coil buckets.

I read something about them on the mothership, so search tbird coils.

As far as the UCAs, I got new lowers with my 3" lift and was just going to use the stock uppers if it doesn't do so bad on the pinion angle.

The big Ford coils won't flex -- period. Full-size pickups weigh a lot more than MJs, so the springs are much stiffer.

ZJ coils will work but may only provide 1 in of lift. Better off getting new lifted coil for a jeep. You are getting all that other stuff for a good deal, spend a little money and ge thet right part. Other wise you will be hating it later. Especialy when you need to go back to the dentist and get your filling refilled, after they fall out with the ride from full size coils.
