Pete M
does/should the conversion kit include the o-rings found at that aluminum junction brick by the firewall? they didn't all survive disassembly when I pulled the hvac box.
eaglescout526
Yes you will need new o-rings all around. The expansion valve doesnt need any o-rings but should be changed out to work with R-134a.

eaglescout526
Looks like it should. What year is the MJ Pete?
olddude
I used the old expansion valve on my r134 conversion. When I replaced the evaporator later I picked up a o ring kit from Advance Auto. Good luck, that thing is a PIA.

Pete M
never mind I can see it stamped on the side of the unit I'm looking at, plain as day.
eaglescout526
Yup!, it is the latest and greatest number and I order it when I added AC and it says R134 on it. Now the dealer info I found a couple years ago doesnt say you have to change out the expansion valve unless there is an issue. Lol glad you found it. cruiser54
On at least 3 Jeeps I have converted to 134a by installing the 134a adapter fittings, using the stock expansion valve, PAG oil which I'd have to get the number of, evacuating and recharging the system. That's it. This was done under the supervision of a long time auto/refrigeration mechanic who has done the same on customer cars for years. Works just fine.....and I live in Arizona...
