I just purchased a 1989 Comanche. It has the I-6 engine, 5-speed manual, and 4-wheel drive.

The truck smells like gasoline even though there is no gas leaking (none on ground below truck). Have any of guys experienced this before? Any suggestions?

I will post pictures this weekend.

Correct-I did not pop the hood before I left for work today. Would I see the gas on the side of the engine if it were a leaky injector?

You could see fuel laying down in the heat shield tray below the injectors. That's how I found my leaky O-ring.

Also the vapor canister could be plugged...

You might see it on the heat shield. You actually might see a stream coming from the injector. They can be hard to trace, one minute they're leaking the next minute, they're not.

Check with the engine running. My leak never showed any dripping or puddling unless the fuel rail was under pressure. An 89 I believe will only be under enuf pressure when actually running to make it leak. Take a hold of the injectors and wiggle them around. Might want to have a fire ext handy when checking them

I still have a leak somewhere near the tank itself. Nothing ever on the ground and noting noticed underneath. But every time I fill up I can smell it until the level drops down a bit.

I changed the "O" Ring on the tank when I did the fuel pump earlier in the year. Its not a major issue,,,but annoying.

Good luck finding yours
