Goodbye AMC HQ

We’ve seen the last AMC dealership closing recently. Next in line is the original headquarters that was used build in 1926 and used through 1975.

Sad to see old buildings crumble but I’m sure the original engineers would be proud to see their products still on the roads.

Hired in on the Road Stimulator Dyno (LABECO) for mileage accumulation needed for our certification vehicles. AMC also had no test track so we rented time at Michigan International Speedway (MIS). Here we would record vehicle information for our CERT vehicles and then run them back in town on the LABECO’s.

Next came Exhaust Emission Instrumentation Group (EEIG). This was strictly the tailpipe measurements needed to pass for vehicle certification.

Next move took me to my RENIX years. Joined Engine Electronic Controls (EEC). This move got me off of midnight/afternoon shifts to daytime work, which was the purpose of the move, and I landed on the newly formed team called 4.0L. Actually, they were going to call it a 3.9L due to the high price of fuel at the time.
