KoopaKid
Body shop is trying to nickel and dime me where they can, and now they want extra for taking the cab vents off to paint properly. They didn’t bother to pull the rear fender flares, but I don’t know if I even want to try pulling those. Can anybody tell me how to pull the cab vents out? Ideally they’ll come out in one piece, but at this point, if they break, I don’t care, just don’t want to give this guy more money.
Pete M
push up first. they will pop off the little push retainers. if you just pry them off the truck, you might snap off the tabs.
87 MJ Chief
So you don't have to remove anything from the interior side to take them off? (step 1- push up, step 2- remove with trim tool or flat screwdriver?) Thanks
ghetdjc320
There is no access to that area inside the cab. They are 100% removed from the outside. Just use the above technique and don’t use excessive force. If you do need replacements though @Dzimm reproduces them.
Dzimm
The outer vent just comes off with those tree clips like mentioned above. For the inner vent you will need the bottom to come out first, then it pulls down and out. Removal Steps - slide the entire unit up as high as possible - pull the bottom, you may need a flathead to help get under it but don't pry hard. Squeezing the sides inwards can help also - once bottom releases, the sides should follow. - pull down and out To reinstall - slot the top in first - snap bottom and sides into place. Here are photos for reference. The big lugs are at the top, little ramps on sides and bottom.
87 MJ Chief
Thanks. We're making a list of trim items to remove-wash-restore-reinstall.
boxyjeep
This is why I took everything off of my truck before sending it to the body shop. They may damage or do other weird stuff. I remove the bumpers, fender flares, vents, door trim, mirrors, cowl panel, everything.
