'91 Ignition Cylinder

The key I currently have for my '91 can be pulled out of the ignition without using the locking lever. I'd like to replace it, and get a few spare keys with it (since I only have one), and have it coded so that it matches the door locks.

 

What are the part numbers I should be looking for? Aftermarket is fine, but I'd like to have some Jeep logo keys if possible.

5257145 for 1991-1992.

 

Taking the new cylinder to a locksmith and having it re-coded from the keys it comes with to your old key is probably the best bet, if it's possible at all. Alternatively, you could see if you could get one through a locksmith. I doubt the dealership would be of any help, but @eaglescout526 might be able to prove me wrong.

If I can still order a Renix ignition cylinder, I am willing to bet there’s Chrysler ones out there.

So I see there’s 12 of the number Minuit provided. Then the number supersedes to a 5161055AA which I can order from vintage. 
 

I like how Chrysler discontinued the HO cylinder sooner than the AMC one. They just discontinued the AMC cylinders this year. HO was 2017

Hey, I'll take whatever I can get my hands on. Let me know if you're able to snag one @eaglescout526. What about key blanks? I see 4637592 as the part #, but can't seem to find any via my Google-fuing.

No keys left but the ignition cylinder that Minuit provided comes with two new coded keys for the cylinder. Course that may not help with your doors.

Oh man. Don’t get me started on the coil lol. I even left a message for the manager to return my call and I got nothin. This one is gonna be fun. But the cylinder should be very easy for me to order.

Are you sure a locksmith can re-code the cylinder?

Lock smiths can recode and I learned from one of my coworkers that he does code and recoding of key cylinders on the side. Problem is is that the techs these days don’t get taught everything they should know so something like recoding a cylinder has gone the wayside like tuning a carburetor or simple diagnostics.

I ended up getting the door lock cylinders I had recoded to the new ignition cylinder I purchased.
