Ax15 swap troubles and questions

Recommended Posts

I have been working on my aw4 to ax15 swap the last week got the auto out yesterday. Having a couple issues. (ax15 and tcase out of 92 cherokee)

1. The pilot bearing doesnt want to go in I have tried freezing it and heating up the crank but I don't want to smack it too hard.

2. the tcase output shaft on my truck has this big chunky electrical connecter that is not on the 92 tcase. Is this ok to just leave out or should I swap output shafts or input shafts so they line up?

What are the measurements of the hole and the bushing

Od of pilot is 1.001” and the Id of the crank isn’t too far back to get the

calipers in.

I have attempted to take the output casing off the 92 case but about 1/2” out it I think ran into the hearing

dirty one is 87

using studs for the upper 2 bolts can help immensely with lining up the transmission. :L:

Yes I will do that when the time comes. would it be better to buy some studs that are the right size and just leave them or use the studs get the rest of the bellhousing bolts on then pull the studs and put bolts on?

those 2 studs are still holding my trans on 15 years later.  :L:  buy grade 8 and they will be all you ever need. :D  they are just like a bolt, but with an adjustable head.   buy ones that are an inch to 1.5" longer than the length of the bolts you have now.

and for the love of AMC, don't put the reverse torx bolts back in.  not ever.  throw them away.

Unless I'm incorrect, that's to fit the, later, .75 inch input shaft into an older engine.

The 92 ax15 should still have the, older style, .59 inch input shaft

I believe you are correct, all depends on what size his trans input shaft is

I'm assuming you've already tested your pilot valve on the pilot shaft?  I'd hate to see you struggling when that inner diameter was wrong the whole time. :(

ID is correct. The fit is close it just feels to me like fitting an aftermarket part in a hole thats never had a pilot. on the back of the crank there are 2 holes and I am aiming for the back one but I think I am having trouble getting it over the lip
