eaglescout526
Hey y'all! So you guys know I bought a house recently and it has a lovely top of the line pool from back in the day. Like the PPO's didnt skip out on the pool they had made. Anyways does anyone have any knowledge or spend time working on these? Perhaps anyone have any spare parts laying around? All I know is this set up has a triton II sand filter and it is in god awful shape and needs to be replaced. But the pump works fine but it seems the plumbing is deteriorating to the point where air gets in and stays good and primed for a whole hour before it gives up and takes on air. Any tips or help would be greatly appreciated! Pic of the decerped system rotting away. Welcome to AZ!

MiNi Beast
unions check valves may be good after a bit running depending on the maintenence history? was is winterized?
eaglescout526
Pool itself is actually in great clear shape. Just has alot of leaves. My friend who used to work for a water park has helped me with it and shown me what to do but said we will need to replace some gaskets and such and see if that fixes the air intake problem. As far as history on it, I have no idea other than the previous people took care of it the best they could without spending any money.

Sounds like either a lazy landlord or tenant trying to keep it going without having the rent go up
MiNi Beast
did you replace or check it anyways sand that is? gaskets are no biggie, worse case is pump line under pool is cracked. keep eye on water level as well. some unions seal back up once running again others are just dryrotted and prolly due for new. eaglescout526
I have not checked the sand actually. Gaskets will definitely be replaced though, just because of the unknown history. Kinda like getting an MJ.
MiNi Beast
for that matter then plan to change out the sand.but varies on use and dirtyness. backwash it once a month. check baskets and ensure a good dip net. the stock up on noodles and squirt guns. and so need a hoop set up. eaglescout526
Yeah it’s one of these work in progress but mostly the goal is to prevent it from turning into a Florida bog.

My friend and I have been talking about it. But tablets are still down right now. I threw the idea of a 55 gallon drum of Clorox bleach as a possible idea lol. eaglescout526
Lol yup! I think first on the list or priority for the pump is to find the air leak cause the pump only seems to run for about 30-45 minutes primed before it gives up and lets the air win. CGCWO
Your likely leak culprit it the large gasket/o-ring in the control valve on top of the filter. Sand in a good running system should last a couple of years as long as you back flush once a month during swimming season. Get on a schedule to do your water testing and be religious on on keeping your water balanced. Our previous house had a similar system, best thing I ever did was convert it to saltwater system. Saved a ton of money on chemicals each year.

I went over to his house today and he gave me some lube for the large O-ring for the pump itself and I put it on and so far so good. I got the clear lid to close more than before so we shall see if that "fixes" it or at least helps it along. My friends dad did the same thing at his old house.
