87MJTIM
On the Renix, ANY ground is a critical ground.
cruiser54
It sorta is. But, if the battery to engine ground is not up to par, it becomes the SOLE ground. Tip 1. ADD grounds.
jdog
Gotta remember theirs a lot of stuff that needs to be grounded and the engine itself is only grounded thru those wires. I'd also be inspecting the dipstick tube and ground cable
Big Dan
I'll give the dip stick ground a good cleaning. Everything there is secure, but it won't hurt. I'll update, tomorrow, if I have any more engine shut offs during driving.
cruiser54
Distributor Sync Sensor, TCU main ground, TCU “Shift Point Logic”, Ignition Control Module, Fuel Injectors, ECU main ground (which other engine sensors ground through, including the Oxygen sensor, Knock Sensor, Cruise Control and Transmission Sync signal. All extremely important stuff. 2 STRONG suggestions regarding the ground system: I prefer to add a #4 gauge cable from the firewall to a bolt on the rear of the intake manifold, either to a heat shield bolt or fuel rail bolt. A cable about 18″ long with a 3/8″ lug on each end works great and you can get one at any parts store already made up. NAPA has them as part number 781116. A further improvement to the grounding system can be made using a #4 cable, about 10″ long with 3/8″ terminals at each end. Attach one end of this cable to the negative battery bolt and the other end under the closest 10mm headed bolt on the radiator support just forward of the battery. NAPA part number 781115. Big Dan
Update #1 - I refreshed the dipstick ground Update #2 - I'll call the problem "mostly" solved. I drive around 80 miles, round trip, this past weekend. The engine didnt cut off on me and there were no major issues. There was, approximately 3-4 times, in total, a quick RPM drop. The engine would go from, say, 2500 RPMs to 2100 and then go right back to normal. This would occur for only a fraction of a second. I did the harness wiggle test, while idling, a was unable to replicate the, thankfully, much slighter problem. With that being said, are there any other common engine grounding issues besides the dipstick stud and firewall to manifold ground?

WahooSteeler
Sounds familiar to a stalling issue I had a while ago. Not sure if this is the cause of your issue but may be worth a look.
Big Dan
Thanks for the info. After reading through your fix, it would not work for me. The EGR system has been removed from my engine.
wadebishop
Would this grounding to the block cause a “long crank”??
Big Dan
Renix, in general, has a long crank. Sent from my Pixel 4 XL using Tapatalk
