500 MJ
I purchased this MJ locally earlier this week and I’ll be using it as a parts truck. It was almost headed to the local junkyard. I am planning to part it out myself over the upcoming weeks and months. The transmission is shot (what originally took it off the road) and time/neglect has done its damage to the rest of it, frame is rotten at the rear spring mounts. It was parked under a tree at the prior owners and the tree fell on the windshield and roof. Plenty of good parts left, you know I’m going to salvage everything that I can. What isn’t usable will be taken to the scrap yard in many, many small pieces. After getting it home today I removed 2” of dirt, leaves and broken glass from the passenger’s floor and cut the hood closures to get the hood opened up for the first time in a long time (hood was already smashed from the tree too). More to come!

jdog
Good luck getting those screws out, last set I pulled they were seized
Pete M
does it just screw down to the bed? seems in this case that might be easy, just cut off the top of the bed and grind off the screws from the underside
500 MJ
Cutting the top of the bed completely off is they way I’ll be getting the bed rails off. I see how they are fastened on the bottom of the top of the bed with non standard nuts. I can see how they would commonly seize up. I’ll get photos once I get to cutting them out, might be a few months... The bed on this thing is toast and only good for a few patch panels at best. jdog
oh yeah, I think I got two out, the rest I cut off. also just noticed the way the hood got opened, guessing the cable was seized?
500 MJ
Cable appears fine, hinge mechanism under the hood gets the salt exposure and it was seized up for sure. Tree had fallen on driver’s front by the fender/hood area anyway so there was no reason to try and save the hood. Cleaned the debris/junk out of the bed yesterday. You can get an idea of what I’m working with here based on the wonderful condition of the bed floor... the bottom side is nice and crunchy. 500 MJ
IMG_2724.MOV Interior of the truck is completely removed except for the dash. The floors were nonexistent after the carpet was taken out. The bench seat brackets were goners as well. Everything else was cleaned up and sold/stored. Both aftermarket bumpers removed. Front fenders removed and scrapped. Both doors removed and sold. Over the last two days the bed has been cut off in many small chunks as there was not enough structure remaining to remove it in one piece. Gas tank was totally rotten but the fuel pump was in amazingly decent shape. Rear window also cut out and cleaned/stored. I have some plans for the front and rear chunks of the bed, might take a few years for them to materialize but I saved them nonetheless. Getting the transmission and transfer case with driveshafts out next. Leaving engine on chassis carcass for moving it around until I have a place to pluck it out and keep it indoors. The hood is protecting it for now, TB and exhaust manifold sealed off from the elements.
