Chrome tail gate handle on eBay

Buy it now for $300, is that a great deal, about right, or too high?

Looks like it is pitted, seems pretty high to me.  Maybe if the chrome was in better shape.  I would go $150 if you needed one, buts that's my opinion.

a great deal would include the tailgate.   

 

but price aside it looks to be in decent shape for someone needing one.  far too many of them are rotted.

I love chrome ... but, $300?  

 

Looks like the seller put some elbow grease into it.  Can't hide the pitting.  The rest of it looks pretty solid.

Yes, some of the non-plated ones rust away to nothing.  I've seen several of these chrome ones, and they all looked similar.  I think the chrome wasn't the best quality and that's what they're going to look like- I wouldn't be surprised if a NOS one looked the same, perhaps with less rust on the back.  I don't think this one was heavily rusted, then polished.

Comanche tailgates are somewhat rare, it follows that handles are too, and chrome ones even more so.  I can't recall seeing one of these sell before, so nothing to base a fair price off of.

my NOS handle isn't pitted, but certainly does not have a mirror finish.   my used one is actually "shinier".

I suspect they skimped on the prep, which is key for chrome plating.  Makes sense some came out better than others.

I was taught at my work that lots of the NOS parts were parts that were good enough to sell, but not good enough to put on a vehicle. That said, it doesn’t surprise me that it isn’t as shiny.
