Redrover
So I have a question for you guys, I recently did a swap of my 2.5l to the 4.0. I kept the automatic in it. I cannot get the truck to go into gear and actually move. I replaced trans cooler lines. I made sure trans was full of fluid. Ran truck and checked fluid. Fluid level is fine. Checked shift linkage like I was reading and found nothing. I got to thinking, maybe there is air in the system that needs bled out. Anyone ever run into this issue? It don’t really stay in park very well either
jdog
Was the convertor fully seated when you installed the trans? It sounds like either a convertor issue or a bad valve body Is it 4wd, is your tcase in gear?
Redrover
I never actually unbolted the trans from the engine. I pulled engine and trans out. Yes it is 4wd and I’m pretty sure it was going into 2wd. Lever felt way to easy when doing so though. Will have to double check and see if it is actually goin into 2wd

Redrover
I swapped pretty much everything from the Cherokee engine bay to the Comanche. There was nothing left besides the back half and shell of Jeep

Redrover
Where is the location of computer control box and neutral safety switch? I know I removed whole dash from Cherokee and put it all in the Comanche.
jdog
Computer is under the dash passenger side, but it doesn't control park. If there is no issue with park what are the symptoms?
Redrover
It will only start in park or neutral. Which is normal. But it Will not move when you put it in reverse, drive or even 1-3.
jdog
Have you tried seeing if it will move in 4lo
eaglescout526
Perhaps the linkage is off in terms of the actual gear location on the T-case.
jdog
That's what I'm thinking
mjeff87
The rod that connects the bottom of the transfer case shifter to the mode selector on the TC is different between the different transmissions. You didn't mention what your old transmission was bolted to the 2.5 you took out....the shortest of those connecting rods is for the AX4/5, middle sized is for the AX15, and the longest of them all fits the AW4. If you had an AX trans and reused your original shift rod and connected it to an AW4 (I don't even think it's long enough to even get close to fitting) I'd bet your TC is not in the correct mode. Another thought, if you did in fact have an AW4 bolted to your 2.5 (a rarity, but they do/did exist), it takes a different torque converter than an AW4 bolted to a 4.0L.
