In a 1986 4cyl, auto, 2wd, longbed MJ - what transmission would be used in it and what would the gear ratios be?? Also, what gears would be found in the rear axle? Thanks in advance Tonka

Pete M Posted October 12, 2007 Posted October 12, 2007 Rear axle could be 3.55, 3.73 or 4.10. Only way to know for sure is to check the tag on the diff cover (if it's there).

Its got the transfercase with it so I was thinking it would be an easy way to convert to 4wd as wel?

Also, had a fun part doing front wheel bearing when I grabbed new ones from the shop for an 86 2wd Manche, but this one has the sealed bearing unit like I've seen on a D30 thats 4wd but a dust cap on the back vs, a ujoint and axle shaft. Weird....

I don't really know auto tranneis but from the build sheet it said its an RH32 or something like that which my buddy who loooked at it said its definately a 727. 89 is the cross over years of DCX so I'm not sure what they were using and when Thanks for the info gents
Pete M Posted October 13, 2007 Posted October 13, 2007 To the best of my knowledge, the grand waggy never changed it's engine bolt pattern so it'd still be the AMC pattern.
