kansashogan Posted September 8, 2019 Posted September 8, 2019 I have a '86 and an '88 with different frames. Can someone explain why they are different in the X crossmember? The '86 is much larger. Metric ton? It does have an AMC 20 rear axle with 4.10 gears.

Jeep Driver Posted September 8, 2019 Posted September 8, 2019 I'd suspect it was a redesign to accommodate both long and short after '86. Has nothing to do with axles or payload.
