Ball Joints, U Joints, anything else?

Recommended Posts

Bout to order everything, but getting a few different part #'s.  For the Ball Joint I'm ordering (2 Sets) Spicer 706944X.

What Spicer part # for axle u joints?  Spicer 5-760X U-Joint Kit from amazon, but Rockauto has DANA 51310X.

Anything else I should look at besides wheel bearings? (No movement when checked with wheel off the ground.) And just did ZJ steering upgrade kit. Thanks in advance guys.

I'm still working through morning coffee...... but IIRC the 760 is going to be the bigger ujoiunt that was on 96+. You can't move up to them unless you have swapped the shafts as well. Which now would be the time to ditch the CAD if you have it.

This.

And the 51310X look like they're driveshaft ujoints.  These are the 260X ujoints for early axles.  Rockauto does not have them listed correctly.  https://www.rockauto.com/en/moreinfo.php?pk=4937496&jsn=522

Thanks guys, what's the CAD I keep hearing about

Central Axle Disconnect.  On the passenger side of the axle there is a vacuum actuated coupling that only connects the passenger side axleshaft when in 4wd.  The theory of it is to save a little wear and tear and fuel economy, as it stops the front driveshaft from being driven significantly while in 2wd.  Most people don't like it because it can cause some reliability issues and doesn't seem to make a measurable difference in fuel economy.

I used MOOG 378s for my stock 1989 MJ axle shaft U-joints.  Followed up by MOOG 513107 wheel bearing/hubs while I was at it.  Just did it just over a week ago.

$184.94 total with shipping.  I went with an Ebay seller.
