Pete M
so my new 88 has some... "issues" with the exterior plastics (crumbles in my hands). as it so happens, I have a 96 XJ available to me for parts (but it's 700 miles away). does anyone know for sure that those underside bits of black will go right in? essentially I'll need them all (except for the flare itself). eaglescout526
The splash shield? I can’t imagine Chrysler would’ve changed the design of those during the XJ life. I don’t see why not. It seems Chrysler has different part numbers over the years but they supersede. So they should work
Minuit
Yup. I have '96 splash shields on my '91. The '96 parts actually seem to be made a little better and last longer than the originals.
Pete M
bonus! I went out to poke around at the new truck and realized that the rear splash guards are in good shape. I do need that inner flare liner thing though.
schardein
Yep the 96s interchange and as Jeremy noted they seem to be a better material. There is another thread on this a while back, I bought aftermarket from Rockauto and they left a gap where they should tuck under the flares. Getting original used from a 96 is the best bet. eaglescout526
I can almost swear Chrysler still has plenty available. I think I got every piece to the splash shields as I had to remove every brittle piece of plastic that was still attached. At least when I did mine Chrysler still has a bunch left. Probably to do at most 100 MJ/XJ’s
