Gotta quit buying these things..

Recommended Posts

I traveled to Virginia last Friday and picked up a 1992 4.0 4wd automatic long bed. Have been looking for a winter rig to keep miles off my JLU and my 89 in good condition and rust free, as salt wreaks havoc on vehicles here in WV. I picked it up right, knowing it had some issues to work out before being road-worthy. I have come here to gather opinions on what brand and best place to purchase a radiator because the current one is leaking. I also need help identifying a part that fell when I was taking the front clip off, which is pictured below. Thanks I’m advance!

that is a rotor. goes under the cap in the distributor.

Can I assume that the truck would not start without the rotor in place?  It definitely fell from within the front clip, so I guess it’s safe to say it was dropped and never found?

Yes. Someone probably dropped it when changing it, easy to do.

Since you have a 92 auto, you'll need a open system radiator with the auto tranny cooler built in. I got mine from These guys on Ebay. I paid ~$200 for a Fluid Dynamics 2-row all-aluminum radiator minus fans when I got it a few years ago. It's US-made and is very solid. I don't know what they are going for now, but it's a great rad. You can contact them on Ebay and see what they are selling for now.

Amc, congrats on the addition. Where in VA did you snag that if you don't mind me asking?

Don, I thought you also added an external trans cooler in addition to that radiator?

Thanks Wahoo! Found it on Facebook Marketplace and picked it up in Winchester.

Damn.....I gotta pay attention to FB Marketplace more. I was just up that way 2 Fridays ago myself......picked up a Kobalt black truck box that had only been used for a month before the guy decided he wanted a cap, then in Martinsburg got a rust free bed to salvage patch panels from for my rusted wheel wells.

Do you mind saying what you paid for it?

Martinsburg is where my first and current 89 Comanche came from, its a Pioneer SWB 4.0 4wd 5-speed with a factory Dana 44. Got it off the second owner and came with all original documentation showing it from NC. I've seen several others in that area since, along with parts, but really hate the drive   I picked it up for $300 though. I've owned 5 within the last year, and this is by far the cheapest, and is better in some ways, than the others I've owned. I wish it wasn't a LWB but its hard to go wrong with a running and driving 4wd comanche with a clean title for that price!

How much did that bed run you? SWB or LWB? This 92 had some damage behind the driver side rear wheel well and got into where the tail light mounts. I would like to EVENTUALLY address it.

Wow! $300..........I would have been all over that. I prefer the long bed, that's what I have now.

I had been communicating with the seller of the bed for a few months, just couldn't find time to make the trip up there. Then I found the tool box a little past Winchester and got it for less than 1/2 of new, spotless, not a nick on it. So I was already planning on making the trip to get the tool box and by luck the guy with the bed messaged me that same day and said he was moving and did not want to take it with him. Drove the extra hour and snagged it for $100. :brows:

I thought so too.........$240 for a new tool box and rust free bed. But for only $60 more you got a whole damn truck, much less the fact it was a 92, running, clear title, 4x4, automatic long bed! I'll trade you the tool box and spare bed PLUS $100 for the truck? LOL :beerchug:

As appealing as that sounds, I think I’ll pass 😝 however, if you end up having any bed left behind the driver side wheel well I might be interested!
