a bum with money
hey all, hope everyone is having a great labor day weekend. I'm repairing some small rust holes in the cab floor and I suspect that these plugs have let in some moisture causing the rust issue. was wondering as to how others have dealt with leaking plugs. there not easy to work with because of their location ( kind of hard to get in their ). their are only 3 loose plugs and I still have them to put them back in if need be. my main concern is sealing out the moisture coming in through these plugs. thanks Bryce
Tsalagi
I used sealant designed for metal (it was specified on the tube) to seal some leaky plugs in the back of the cab floor. At first I thought it was the seam in the back of the cab but finally saw the plugs hiding and went to town on them with the sealant.
AZJeff
You can purchase a sealant specifically made for automotive body seams from Amazon or a larger auto parts store.
SVPete
My truck did not have plugs in that location.
Wounded_Fighter
I'm not sure that it matters in the end if those plugs are there or not since it is the Frame rail location, it'll rust from the inside of the frame through (if its rusted bad enough). I'm still deciding how I'm going to reseal some of the pan plugs myself, especially the larger ones up front. Currently they were por15 coated and just bent the tabs over so they don't fly out. some of the plug locations I'm thinking of welding closed with some sheet metal. bad_idea
I'd weld em up if you don't need to remove them. One of the plugs fell out the bottom of the truck the other day when I closed the door. With a big chunk of the floor pan. Guess I'll have to replace the floor pan soon.
