Blue88Comanche
While the MJ is torn apart one of the things i am looking to replace is the rubber grommet for the radio antenna cable. The existing grommet shrank and poped out.... thus confirming the leak when it rains. Where could i get a replacement grommet or a new antenna cable assembly with the rubber grommet? HOrnbrod
The cable grommet is p/o the antenna base assembly and is not available separately. The p/n for the base assembly is 56000282, which is NLA. The 97 and up base is, but the grommet is too small for the 96 and below XJs/MJs. So - find one at a yard is the only option, unless you switch to a power antenna. That's what I did... SVPete
I made a "clip" out of thin sheet metal to hold the grommet in place from the inside and then applied some RTV around the grommet from the outside and inside to seal it.
MeanLemons
Or do what I do. Delete the radio and related accessories.

The grommet that comes with the aftermarket power antenna also leaks (but it's almost certainly better than what you have already) so it has to be supplemented with some kind of sealer. At least until the aftermarket power antenna craps the bed, and you need to get it back out again when you finally learn your lesson and install a NOS one. Adding the electronics is relatively simple to do. Or, like me, you can make it difficult if you want it to appear completely original
