I was looking at my pulleys and it looks like my alternator is not aligned. Is this the cause of the problem? If so how can I fix it

Is that a 88 2.5?

Something there does not look right. AC?

It is an 88 2.5 as far as I know. It does not have mpi so its definitely renix. Unlike your engine my ac and alternator seem to be switched with an idler pully next to the alternator. I read somewhere that this switch was done either from factory or after for better water foarging abilities but idk

That is not factory, there is no idler pulley on the 2.5.................even with AC delete, and AC delete is an AC bracket over the alt with a pulley to replace the AC compressor. IOWs just the same as mine less the compressor.

Strange, never seen this before.

This is the only one I can find that resembles yours, and his looks cobbled together.

The only thing I can tell you is to use spacers or washers to bring the alt out and in line.

The alt pulley definitely looks out of alignment and it also looks new. Did you recently replace it? If so, where did you get it and what's the p/n?

it does look out of alignment and i am scratching my head as to how to get it back into alignment. And the alternator is from rockauto.com Alternator Link p/n: REMY 20349

Later model MPI has bracketry like that, MPI accessories are closer to the block, Renix is further from the block, that might explain why the alt is in closer.

Its definitely weird. As I am trying to figure it out, it explains why the 2.5l belt from rockauto.com was too short and didnt fit. And similarly to that youtube video you linked. My alternator falls into a bracket that doesnt really make it possible to space it foward

The link gives the specs of the alt, but not applications. Don't matter - it's out of alignment causing the belt shredding and needs to spaced forward.

Yeah, I see that.

May have to cut and weld..........IOWs move the mounting point out about 1/2".....or whatever the difference is.

I have the actual alt bracket on ebay but you need the AC delete..........you don't want to pay my price anyway.

I'd suggest you look for an alt bracket and AC delete bracket and set it up the way it's supposed to be. May take you a while to find the parts though. In the mean time....cut and weld.

Is there another way besides cut and weld because I don't have a welder on hand. Also how does his setup in the video seam to be in alignment

I am sorry I am bothering so much I just wanted to try and fix it Wednesday morning

There were 2 alternator versions of the 2.5

buddy of mine had a no a/c and the pulley was shorter and couldn’t get it to line up like swampy situation now (he had an a/c equipped alternator)

the non a/c version had almost a thicker rib as extender to bring the pulley out to line up with all the accessories

someone here had that same issue a LONG time ago and I found it to help my buddy...

let me see if I can find the thread

interesting.

7 years of looking at parts engines, belt diagrams, pics......etc..........this is the first I've seen of this.

In your first link, that is the AC delete that I've seen plenty of...........Swampy's, this is the first.

Why? same model year? No answer for that.

Better find that pulley.

Spoke to him already, luckily he has his old alternator and he’s going to swap pulleys
