robbie95
So I'm probably gonna do my front brakes next weekend, however, whenever looking for brake sets (brake pads and rotors together in a kit) only ones I can find are for 4WD.. Can I use a 4WD set on my vehicle or do I have to find the 2WD set? It's not a big deal, just figured if I could save money by buying a set I would, but then again I can piece it out if needed. Should I go ahead and replace the calipers too? Or no? Vehicle specs 91' 2.
gogmorgo
Take a look at the callipers, post a photo of you can maybe? In '91 or so the knuckles, hubs, brakes, everything got changed, but the 2wd's kept the old design for a bit after the 4x4's adopted the new one. Easiest way to tell the difference I think is that the old style callipers had one large window in the back of it, but the new style has two windows. If you have two windows the 4x4 pads and rotors should work, if not, maybe try getting them for an '89? Are you thinking about changing callipers only for piece of mind? My experience is that rebuilt ones are reasonably cheap after the core is returned... My last pair were around $35/side.
Jeep Driver
If you have a unit bearing, NOT a spindle, the 2x rotors and calipers are exactly the same as the 4x............for your era which should run through '99 IRRC.

Yea, I'm on the fence about changing the calipers out.. I figured I could since I was gonna be doing brakes, but then again, if it aint broke.. don't fix it lol.. 1 hour ago, Jeep Driver said: If you have a unit bearing, NOT a spindle, the 2x rotors and calipers are exactly the same as the 4x............for your era which should run through '99 IRRC. HOrnbrod
All 91 2WD models had the old style front brakes (rotor pictured below) as Gog mentioned; the change date to the 4WD style was in 1992 mid-year. The best way to order 91 2WD calipers and rotors I've found is to use the 2WD caliper/rotor Mopar p/n's and have the counter drone cross them. RockAuto also carries them. I last got the Wagner rotors and calipers from O'Reillys, but that was awhile ago. 53002928, ROTOR, Brake 5252986, L Caliper 5252987, R Caliper 5252613, L & R Brake Pad Set

Alright, I'll take a look, thank you! if your calipers are working fine now, i would just replace the guide pins with new well lubed ones. .
