I'm not sure this is correct. His VIN returns what he describes.

His VIN: 1JTHE6513GT053865:

4th digit H=2.5L

5th digit E=Auto Column

8th digit 1="Custom"

Your VIN: 1JTWL6572GT053865

4th digit W=2.8L

5th digit L=5sp. Manual

8th digit 7="X"

Unless the OP goofed the VIN when reading it, unfortunately if the whole VIN is wrong when we run it, we run the last eight and that usually yields us a VIN. But it may not be the right VIN and usually the last eight are unique to the vehicle unless its a newer vehicle with the same last 8.

You are both correct. I've never studied one line of vehicle this much. With that said these VIN's are weird! I'm guessing the used the same last eight digits on the XJ platform. When the AMC files where transferred to Chrysler and then to Daimler-Chrysler and then FCA only one VIN got transferred to the new system. I know beacuse we are a dual like dealership, GM still has multiple vehicles that use the same last 8. Not as normal now as it was in the 2000ish era. Back then a last 8 on GM would usually pull a Truck, car, and at least one other Line. ( Chevy, GMC, Pontiac, Olds, Buick)
