DirtyDeeds
has any one removed the blower box from under the passenger side of the dash? i want to pull all that stuff out, seeing how none of it works so i can use the space for other things. can anyone give me a hint of how hard it is and if i have to pull the whole dash? kook911
There is a great write up on how to do this. Just google it and you will find it. The hardest part that I found was removing the screws from the top of the dash. Other then that it is pretty straight forward. But I don't know what you are going to gain space wise, also what are you going to do about heat? That box holds your heater core.
Dzimm
I think the heater box helps to support the dash slightly so you may get a little movement in the dash afterward. I can imagine you'll hear a lot more noise coming through the firewall as well, and you'll have to patch a few holes in the firewall. I am definitely interested to see how you are able to utilize this space. There will be a ton of room there but accessing it will be the hard part. Keyav8r
I've had my blower box out twice working on AC. Pulled the dash completely both times. Some folks say you can get it out without removing the dash, but they must be a lot nimbler and smarter than me. Label any connectors you take apart and watch which screws and bolts go where when you take them out. Take special note where the cable bundles lay in and on the dash and firewall. If they get out of place the dash won't go back in correctly. Check and re-check every electrical and vacuum connector before you tilt the dash back into place. Some of them can/will work loose and you'll be dropping the dash again to find them (voice of experience).
DirtyDeeds
well i live in south Texas so heat it not my concern lol the heater core was bi passed before I got it and it didn't even come with factory ac. As far as sound goes my jeep is strictly a weekend toy and its completely stripped of all trim minus the dash anyway so I'm use to the assortment of sounds I hear. And I can add a support. but I would like to use the space for my alarm box, computer, ECT and maybe relocate my battery from behind my passenger seat to inside the dash and to shed needless weight. But most of all I don't like that there is something electrical with power going to it that isn't used. It just feels like something to cause a problem and a fire later on. Dzimm
That makes perfect sense to do it. How do you plan in creating access to it, especially since there will be a battery there. I certainly wouldn't want to pull the dash any time I needed to access the battery.
DirtyDeeds
I'm almost thinking of cutting that whole side of the dash completely out and fabbing a dash panel that opens like a big glove box, just an idea though, ill be finishing my supercharger build before i make it to that. i already have re wired most of the dash with custom digital gauges, why not go custom on the other side to lol
cruiser54
No need to pull the dash. Loosen the bolt/nut on the passenger side and lift up.
8valvehero
You can remove the pass seat (or bench) and unbolt the entire dash to swing it out juuuust enough to slide the damper box out, but in my experience it's worth it to just take the dash out, clean it and put it all back together. cruiser54
No need to remove the whole dash at all!!! I've done these before and gonna do it again. Save yourself a ton of time and follow the FSM procedure.
