restore, customize or fix and flip? '89 2wd 4.0 Auto w/ under 53k miles!

Hey all, 

Totally new to the jeep world and recently picked up a 89 2wd 4.0 automatic comanche 

 

Didn't really know how rare they are until after reading about them and getting offers from people when I've driven it. (had it about a month)

 

Its in very decent condition for being an 89 and judging by the others available for sale nationwide it seems to be in above average condition physically and mechanical. 

 

I got it from the original owner (a school district) who did all the scheduled maintenance regularly whether or not it was needed. 

 

It lived on a school campus all it's life and racked up 52k miles in its life (which is why I bought it) 

 

So far I've gotten new tires on it and painted the fender flares. 

 

I don't 'need' another vehicle but been thinking about fixing up the interior, adding a radio (currently has original AM only radio), maybe new shocks and possibly paint... That's where I start thinking fix it lightly or restore or just flip it? 

 

 

She really is a fun truck even though she's so basic... I now realize what nostalgia is.

Just purchased this 89 2wd about 2months ago too from the original owner.

Not wanting to sell though.

Gentlemen,. I got my Comanche about 10 years ago to use as a Home Depot truck around the house. It has long ago paid for itself and been my spare driver for years. Along the way, it has grown on me. Suggest that may be the best use for a clean old Comanche.

Finally got some photos to post...

So far I've:

put new tires on

Added the 'normal style side mirrors

And removed the camper (and posted it for sale online)

 

As for the suggestion of using it as a home depot truck, I already have a sprinter van that can serve that purpose ;)

 

Any other comments?

 

It comes with the original AM only radio. Ive heard jeep buyers like OEM stuff... Should I keep it in or swap out with something Bluetooth capable?

WOW that's beautiful! Any truck in that condition IMO goes into the "restore, keep largely as found" bin. Other than the interior being tan, this really takes me back! I say pop the dents out, maybe upgrade the interior a little bit, but otherwise keep it the way it is :)

 

I'm typically in favor of keeping the factory radio (see my signature) but those pushbutton AM-only radios are just plain outdated. If you want to keep the stock look, there are several other stock radios with that look that will plug in and give you more functionality including AUX inputs and maybe Bluetooth while looking right in the dash. '89 seems to be a little late for that style of radio, but I have seen them occasionally. I can't really make it out in the pic, but does the radio say "Jeep" on it or have the AMC triangles?

Very nice condition.  I think it is a keeper, very close to stock.  I would keep it that way.
