Spydie Posted May 3, 2017 Posted May 3, 2017 Alright, so took the MJ out for the first time today thinking the 4x4 was working (stupid me for assuming  ) Well, got underneath and realized the dude before me took off every vacuum line he could find and now I'm left trying to play find where it goes. I've tried looking up some diagrams but none have really helped, i know the two for the actuator side, but i not sure which of these three (or why there's three?) to connect the hose to. Any help is appreciated
SVPete Posted May 4, 2017 Posted May 4, 2017 From your photos: The top vacuum line in the first photo goes the middle port in your second photo. The middle vacuum line in your first photo goes to a port the right side of your second photo (the actual port isn't visible in the photo). The lower vacuum line goes to the port on the left of your second photo. I used ordinary vacuum hose when my original connector broke.
cruiser54 Posted May 8, 2017 Posted May 8, 2017 Something to consider: CAD STINKS The big issue is that the CAD system only fails when you need it the most. Kinda like when you don't realize your wiper blades need replacing until it rains.... I know somebody’s system works and he advocates keeping it stock, but my exposure to the failures is probably hundreds of times greater than his, as a result of being Service Manager at a Jeep dealership from 1980 through 1992, and being a current XJ and MJ owner. CAD stinks. Every Jeep I work on with it, I eliminate it. Guess what I find in the process? 25 year old busted vacuum lines, bloated vacuum line connectors, bad vacuum reservoirs and piping, bad transfer case vacuum switches. In other words, had the person gotten into a sticky situation and needed 4WD, they would have been screwed!!! That's the tip of the iceberg. The factory went through 3 revisions of the shift fork also. The fork issue is non-existent if you just slide it over and leave it. See the link below for complete instructions. Takes less than 1/2 hour. http://www.cherokeeforum.com/f51/fre...ss-91-a-38629/ ,
MuddFoot Posted May 8, 2017 Posted May 8, 2017 could just make a homemade posi lock for the shift fork. i would buy a new shift fork at the same time
Eagle Posted May 8, 2017 Posted May 8, 2017 I agree with Cruiser. My '88 XJ has the CAD. When did I realize that it didn't work? Right -- when I was trying to get to work in a blizzard, and could understand why I couldn't make it up the first hill on the way to the office. That was long enough ago that I didn't know how easy it is to just lock the CAD in the engaged position, so I bought a replacement vacuum harness for it. Now that I know, if I get the '88 on the road this summer (as planned), I will lock it and forget it.
Green Mesa XJ Posted May 9, 2017 Posted May 9, 2017 Is it better to do the lock out by moving the fork so it's always engaged or buy/make a disconnect eliminator kit? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro
HOrnbrod Posted May 9, 2017 Posted May 9, 2017 CAD. Yet another Renix POS design jewel. :shake: CAD delete. Yet another work-around.
