Tylerzap
So I've been looking into performing a full axle swap on my 88 MJ. Plan is DD (most of my trips are 3 miles or less) with 33/35s while being able to tow and trail ride. I have a few HPD30s, an 8.25 sitting in my garage with ZJ disk brakes. All 3.55, would have to get them regeared to 4.88s, and do the WJ knuckle swap on the D30. There's also a sleeved, trussed, JK D30 for sale with chromo shafts geared to 4.88s locally for $700, and then getting a 65 wms rear axle and have it regeared to match. I don't mind fab work. Wanted to know what yalls opinion was?
Tylerzap
A set of D44s from a 80 Waggy with manual hubs are also available to me, still in the Jeep. Plus cost of brakes, regear, mounts and everything.
Incommando
JK D30's are prone to bending if it was pushed hard so I would be careful there. The waggy axles sound like a good way to go IMHO.
Pete M
mid 90s v6 Rodeo/Montero rear 44s can be had with disks and 4.10s or 4.30 gears and are a perfect match for the Waggy fronts (same width and bolt pattern).
Jaxso32
If you don't mind the fab work, a ford 9 inch out of a bronco is relatively cheap and strong as hell. Lots of aftermarket support and not hard to convert to disk brakes
Pete M
sorta strong as hell. I broke mine. :( cracked the case by dropping it on a rock we think. certainly not because of my engine power. :shake:
Jtrux
JK axles all the way imo. If it is trussed already, you're set. Better unit bearings, ball joints, u joints, brakes, etc. It's gonna be work but you can get all the swap info you want on many TJ build threads since that's where I see the most swaps. Since the suspension on a TJ is virtually identical to an MJ, should provide a pretty accurate guide for how to do it. Wiggilez
My rear axle is a cryshler 9.25 out of a ram 1500. Those are pretty plentiful. Not too sure what the factory ratios are though as the previous owner put 4.10 in it.
