Intro

- First MJ, picked up my 1987 Jeep Comanche Pioneer LWB a couple weeks ago and decided to document my build.

Goal

- My entire goal with this build is to make a daily driving work truck that can handle some light off roading.

Meet Piney

She's got about 170,000 miles and is darn near rust free. As far as I can tell she lived her whole life in southern Utah.

Took a 4 hour trip south and picked her up.

First things first was a good cleaning.

The first thing I'm gonna do is restore the interior... So everything out!

Piney is a pretty girl man!   I wish my 87 was that rust free, you're lucky. Looking forward to seeing what you do to her.

Been doing little things here and there. I used some U-POL rust prevention on the floor. I also sprayed some locktite foam in lots of the holes and crevices where I couldn't get the paint. I figure it'll be good for sound insulation as well. I also put in some hush Matt (geeze that stuff is expensive). Also got an inner shift boot witch was just completely gone!6062870a68e4690ffd05d9da58432c2d.jpge4166977f1ebd90518db50274deeb9aa.jpg6c4f26a1cc8b500819c693ef45671fb4.jpg

While putting in the new carpet I found some wires and a button just hanging down from my dash... Also a big yellow box. Anyone know what these are?5e23ad148fa80b4b02ba48993295a72d.jpg36fcff275e69bb62f8ad36c41149f003.jpg

Big yellow box should be your PCM (powertrain control module); not too keen on the exposed wire coming into it off that red, 6ga(?) wire. Seems like someone was fiddling with it at some point. You've got a clean truck there, friend!

The yellow box is the cruise control module thinger.  That push button switch is quite possibly related, or maybe not.  I've never owned one with cruise control.

That's not the pcm (99%) certain.

Nice truck man

Ah. The PCM is silver box, yes? Always got those two confused.

ECM.  It's only really controlling the engine.  But yes, it's the silver box above the accelerator pedal.  PCM is more of a newer/ODBII thing where you start to integrate all of the vehicles systems, often still used in conjunction with an ECM/TCM/ABS/Cruise modules/etc (acts as a liaison between these things and allows for centralized diagnostics of all systems).

Well they were both just hanging down so hopefully I can find a way to tuck them back up under the dash when I put the trim back on. Thanks everyone!

Alright been doing quite a bit of work lately. Painted the interior, new carpet, new seat belts, new door seals... And finally got my seat back from the upolstry shop. Of course it started raining on me so I had to roll out into the garage and roll my brother's CJ oute00b24efce6d254b0085aeaf39f3d2aa.jpg2cd70035b97e8f86c39fb2d05f1073f9.jpg6bef3f2d9530437d2294e6d492bde88e.jpgce9b9043a37992e393f3f74894d83ac0.jpg

How was the fit and quality of the carpet? Did you go with the "super ultra mega plush" option or whatever they call it?

Posted

Ya I did the carpet with mass backing for and extra 40$ I think it was. Definitely worth it for the sound insulation alone. Fit was already molded to the shape of the floor and I just had to trim some extra fabric on the outside little by little to get it to fit.
